Fuel tank cap repair/replace
« on: May 08, 2014, 09:35:49 PM »
Hello,
I am looking to sort out an issue I have with the fuel tank locking latch
The catching piece of metal is not there and I am guessing if I can replace it completely with a different cap.

Thanks

Sorry for not replying sooner. The tank is from a cb750 K2.
See the picture attached.
I am thinking of (mig) welding the rest of the missing part.

No reason that you can't weld repair it, depends on how good you are with the mig, to be honest I would have thought mig was a bit of a blunt instrument for such a small repair, TIG would probably suit that application better, might be an idea to take it to a professional , my local TIG welder would charge less than a tenner for a small job like that, all depends on what kit you have and your level of skill/experience.

Thanks, i am not a pro but it just needs a spot or two. Where's your local welder anyway?

Derby, Rob at Racing Lines, if anyone in the area needs any welding done I would strongly recommend him, it's his business , bike repairs is his mainstay but he's an excellent welder and always very helpful.
