I really like Avon sm mk2 400/18 as a rear tyre, best grip for winter of any bike tyre I ave ever had fitted, I started using them due to the square tread profile being good for my sidecar outfit, but caught short of a legal tyre on my bmw r80/7 I bunged a spare one on and found they are truly excellent solo bike tyres, if they handle that well on a huge bulk like the bm, and let you crank it over enough to touch the pegs down on damp roads then they get my vote., think I had Avon roadrunner 100/90 19 up front in those days thanks to a mate getting a job lot of them cheap, the ribbed look did not inspire confidence, but they were good on solos, but showed their limitations on a sidecar, ploughing streight on out of a t junction if too much power was laid down on full lock, though they were very old tyres, hence the price being low. Remember this was on a sidecar, they have their own rulebook. On a normal bike even the old tyres were great.
