You could well be right oddjob, i tend to look at these when i am winding down after work and the 13-15 hour shifts make the brain cells more dull than they should be!!!

To answer the various questions:

  • Pete - yes, it's the gold one that lived in the barn (and that I refused to sell to Malcolm...)
  • Ash - points sheathing (?) Hadn't even noticed it until I looked at the photo.
  • Bryan - is it a "K0"? What is a 500K0 anyway? This one has frame: CB500-2010297, engine CB500E-2010317, First reg: 08/06/72
  • Oddjob - the colour is lighter than it looks as I always darken the exposure on these shots (for the "sultry" look...)

Well that's fairly conclusive. Thanks guys.

Nice to have an engine that's only 20 away from the frame. Pure coincidence I'm sure.

I think my 400/4 is the same frame and engine no.! Memory could be playing tricks though.

There is a third answer to a matching number. Some time i would have CX500 engines in with no number on the block. If i never had a scrap unit to copy the number i would stamp the frame number. Making the bike with matching numbers.
Answered this question on another forum. The member had a CX500 with matching numbers. I asked the member to remove the engine Honda plate's and see if there was any stamps under the plate. As we would stamp under the plate so we know that it was of my engines. He removed the plate to find that i had already been at work on that before.

My "NOS" tax disc arrived today:

It came from Earlswood Reproductions (www.britishtaxdiscs.co.uk)

I went for the "distressed" version with artfully faded colours and text.
