Cheers guys, just beginning, that Wadkin sounds good. I have an Oliver pattern mkers lathe, removeable gap bed, bought to re line drum brakes on my 500/4 without having to dismount the tyre or un lace the spokes, I only realisedit did wood when it arrived. Being a 1914 machine and 3phase, it did need some work to get running and still needs more to do bike drum brakes but it  seemed rude not to have a go at doing something with a massive cherry tree that dropped in the wind a few years back. If I get a free standing tool rest that my lath should have it has an outboad face plate to turn a radius of abot 4 foot! somehow I doubt I'll ever find a bit of wood big enough to need to abandon the inboard faceplate though, that will take 14 inch radius. Ebay yas a lot to answer for, the lathe was £90 delivered.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

£90 bargain, the wadkin is very similar, I have been a patternmaker for 44 years and still love my job, sad i know.
Should retire and work on the bikes but i think me and "er in doors "would probably have a big fall out if i
was at home full time ;D ;D
