As I want to keep options open to be able to change back, I will leave standard mounts, may fit a short section of 7/8 tube.

I know many Cafe Racer style fans will disagree, but I am aiming not to make any changes that cant be undone ;D

Started the frame fit up and found the swinging arm caps would not stay in place, struggled for 20 mins so put to one side.

Went back to it later and was able to fit with a bit of jigling :o

Test fit of clip ons and dummy tank found that steering stops need modifying to stop bars hitting tank.

Trouble is the stops on lower yoke are quite narrow and drilling will weaken.

With forks in place tried mudguard fit  :-[ the one supplied and painted is too narrow :'( School boy error not to check before painting!

Now starting to doubt plan, maybe better to do as modified F1 with standard bars and front mudguard?

Decided to modify steering stops.

To save having to remove lower yoke, it can be done in situ.

Needed extra long drill to drill from front (need longer drill to allow chuck to clear yoke) and then drill M4 tapping size 3.3mm from rear.

Used M4 Allen screws and seems to do the trick :)

Steering lock didnt want to come out.

I havepreviously  used a M6 bolt held in place with stiff wire inside frame tube and tyre lever.

Didnt have a key and you have to turn a little to left to align.

It came out a bit, but no further.

2015_0503after0006 by nitram2010, on Flickr

Decided to drill.

2015_0503after0011 by nitram2010, on Flickr

Small chisel to try turning to left.

2015_0503after0013 by nitram2010, on Flickr

Manage to lever out and could see why it was a struggle.

Thanks Pete, still not sure about clip ons, as they were uncomfotable 30 years ago :o

Not planning any long journeys.

I do like the look and can afford to play around, with two completed CB750's  :)

Removing seals in forks was tricky.

Tried a slide hammer with lipped plate behind seal to pull out. but ended up drilling and fitting screw and using claw on crow bar to lever out.  Be careful not to catch fork leg with drill.

Ordered up some bits from caferacerseats yesterday and parts arrived today ;D

2014_1213partscafe0002 by nitram2010, on Flickr

Unfortunately front mudguard is 100mm wide at fixings (was described as 120mm) and I need about 135mm.

Anyone found a suitable mudguard or have a suggection on filling the gap?

Checking main bearing clearance with Plastigauge.

Thought I would do as a precaution.

Crank shaft fitted to upper case which is on a  Workmate bench opened to accomodate studs .

Plastigauge applied to all main bearings and held in place with grease.

2015_0508after0015 by nitram2010, on Flickr

Fitted lower case and torqued main bearing bolts.

Remove bolts and case.

Looks to be about 2 thou on all, which is within tolerance.
