Car insurance for older vehicles.
« on: Today at 01:27:26 PM »
My renewal quote from Direct line has arriived today for our 1997 Merc SL500.

Price has increased from £305.16 fully comp in 2023 to  £406.49 on restricted mileage of 2k a year. All the excess have increased as well. Cover is Market Value of the vehicle & includes Green Flag break down, glass cover with an excess of £125, accident excess £500. Full NCB but not protected.

There were 9 pages in red ink of excusions & policy changes including Government Action, War or usurped power etc.

Anyone here who can recomend a Broker or Company for older vehicles that are not really classics, I seem to be paying more for less cover?

Try H & R insurance in Aberdeen, I found them very good when I used to have my 1994 BMW M3.

Ted,
I have just received my renewal from PJ for the XJ-S V12 - an 89 car with just under 20k, so I obviously wanted agreed value.  Last year was £303 but this year it's £403 - unlimited mileage and UK and EU breakdown cover.  Didn't want to just cough up, so I rang them to discuss.  I have a self built much modified injected classic Mini Clubman Estate with them, so they tried to put the two together but that made little difference.  All of my bikes are with them as are the everyday Jazz coupled with a 2000 Mazda MX-5 Icon.  Computer says 'You are 75 in June, so away from the cheaper sweet spot for insurance'. I blame me Dad for telling the truth about when I was born!

It's a bugger, this getting old but the alternative is shite!
