Are the spring on the callipers all the same, can they be replaced with other type.
Although they are relatively cheap, with Vat and p&p still over £10 for 2 springs...

Thanks

if your stuck, don't use the spring,it was a common mod in the '70's,in case your worried,I haven't fitted/used those springs since then

So, your suggestion is don't use them. Will it effect the functionality?
Thanks

I've always found connecting the calipers to a master cylinder and pumping does the trick.  Isnt this the same caliper?

Interesting technique however! :o

that was sorted with a grease gun.
if only id find out before screwing the first 2 callipers.
thanks ginger_jim, your technique would have also worked greatly.

P.S. is it necessary replacing the rubber washer in the piston slot?

do you mean the seal ? it is a square section rubber ring.they used to cost about £3,and fitting a new one
will improve piston retraction and seal ,well worth doing

I always use an old master cylinder and hose to pump them out, saves cleaning the grease out afterwards. Also its easy for a newb to damage the threads as they aren't really compatible and easy stripped.

If you mean the piston seal think of it this way---You only have one neck and if that fails you have no brake
