Tank retaining rubber - anyone got a photo?
« on: March 03, 2015, 08:52:31 AM »
Hi all,

I have a nice new rubber to fit on the frame at the seat end of the tank. You know the one; big bugger with a loop to fit the tank lip into.

Can I trouble someone to take a photo of how yours is fitted, please? I'm sure it should be straigtforward, but I don't want to force it, etc. I suspect that my frame lugs have been bent a little. Your photo will help.

Thank you,

D.

Here's some more, from a different angle. The rubber is tight to get over the lug on the tank, probably even more so with a brand new one.

Hi Drew. It's a bit of a pull and stretch to fit this rubber over the tank fitting, I know this as did it about 10 mins ago !!!. I think you and me are just about level pegging with getting the bikes back on the road. I  have to attend to a minor bit of wiring in headlamp today. White wire, going on to main bulb holder, has a loose conection on it and a bit of frayed wire which shorted and blew the fuse. Temporary fix with 13a house plug fuse to make sure that was the problem, which is was. So, tidy up wires, purchase new, proper non house plug fuses and headlamp back together...... hopefully.

Hi Drew,

Potential for scratching your tank here if levering the rubber over the tank tongue with something sharp. Read a tip elsewhere to use a couple of tie-wraps looped through the rubber ie used as pulling handles. Not tried it (yet) myself.... let us know if it is indeed worthwhile.

Whoops, messed up the previous post. Meant to have several attachments showing position of lugs
etc so you can check yours aren't bent. Try these.

Much appreciated quality advice as always.
