K1 carb question
« on: March 07, 2015, 10:06:32 PM »
Hi again, more questions.

On the outside carbs on both sides there is a tube, for want of a better word, that I cannot figure out what it does. I have looked at a lot of K1 carb pictures, a lot of parts drawings and cannot explain what they are.
Does anyone know?

Somehwere along the line your carb bodies have got mixed up. They are vent tubes and help vent the bowl area to atmosphere - should be on carbs 2 & 3 and facing each other (ie on RHS on body 2 and LHS on body 3)..I'll dig out some pics...

Thank you for that, I see now why they don't appear on any of the pictures I have been looking at.
Next obvious question, does it matter that the carbs bodies have been mixed up on the rail or do I need to take them back off and strip them?

Technically you could get away with it, assuming the other bodies are connected correctly. Personally I'd rebuild and get it right...

You're right, it's probably best to have them right and it would mean I can give them a bit of a clean up while I'm at it.
Ah well, one step forward, two steps back.  ;D

Well when you get them off the bike, post some pictures up here and we can advise. James

Cheers James, I have taken them off the rail and realised that the choke lever needed moving to the other carb. Not too bad a job once you get the tiny little split pins out!!!

I hope that this is now correct, all I need to do now is chuck them back together. I didn't realise before that all the air screws were in the wrong place and the bowl drain plugs were all facing inwards. That should have given me a clue.  ::)

Beats me why this has happened, why would anyone change them round?

Looks much better now. Well done for taking the time and effort to sort it.
May be that whoever worked on these before didn't mark the bodies properly before cleaning / reassembly. Looks like the bodies have been blasted at some stage going by the surface finish.
Either way they look right now so get them back together, bench sync'd and back on the bike. Good work.

Well, after a couple of times having to take them apart again because of my cock-ups I have finally gat them sorted and fitted. Hoorah.
I just need to get some clips for the airbox rubbers.

Thanks for the help, I definitely needed it.  ::)

The whole thing is starting to take shape now, it's never going to be perfect (that's beyond the old purse strings) but it will do me.
