Don't know of anybody that stamps the numbers in but I bought a decent one, with rivets, from a French supplier on ebay. If you want I will scan it and email you a pic if you pm your direct mail mate

Had a reply back from the guy on eBay france (J P Menant)....

"Hi,
Thank you for your message.
I think there is no problem to reproduce this plate.
So I need exact dimensions, then I could prepare a model before.
We reproduced and manufactured an almost similar plate last year.
Best regards"

So will let you know how I get on.....

James

Thanks

UK models never had a vin plate till 76/77. US had them before as something to do with Federal regs

I compared the new one to an old one and apart from the printed number instead of punched it appears identical to my age ravaged eyesight mate(not forgetting the numerous guinness damaged brain cells over the years).

A punched one may be difficult as it is done in reverse I.E punched from the back so stamps would be differnt i think

I got one from the UK, but not all black, had spaces for the Nos, I did try to stamp it myself and made a b$&*ls up, got another and took it to a jewellers who done a great job engraving to the right font. If you cant get it stamped, try a local jewellers, take your old one with you so they can match the font
hope this helps?

There was a guy that had a trophy shop local to me that could do them but, went looking today and no longer there James. I would take a guess that any trophy firm could do this job  ;)

We have some fancy engraving /etching machine at the place I work 3 days p.w.  that marks the 316 S/S water motors we sell.  I will check out the spec. Always took no notice of it as never realized its 'guvie' potential. Oracadian will undersantd the term 'guvie' as he worked at BAE near me who were notorious for it !

We also have another special printer that do the silver with black labels shown on the 1st link
