Forgive me.... a Fizzy
« on: June 15, 2015, 08:55:32 PM »
Well folks,

Today I collected a mint'ish 1975 Fizzy. Pretty chuffed with it; an eBay purchase which came in somewhat cheaper than I expected. (But still pricey)

Anyways, it's never been run since resto; was kept as a lounge-piece investment...

No longer... I'll get it MOT'd, insured & soon ridden.

As I say, forgive me. Not a Honda, but as early 70's means a lot to me.

Simon

'Reliving the youth' etc.

Maybe, though I'm sure a shrink would have a lot more to say about it as an ex SS50 (4 speed) owner continually burned off by... every other moped on the road.

40 yrs later... I'll bloody get them back...

Yea Tom, the 'spread' is pretty good / even... tho' ultimately I'd like a CBX into the fold.

Mick... did about 60 mikes on the Guzzi Sat... still lovin' it. I guess it down to it's bloody responsiveness, just 'think' anything & it happens, wow type acceleration, phenomenal stopping, loping through corners... all so finger-bloody light versus the old girls in my stable.
(you gotta remember, I've zip big / modern big experience, and worse currency...... doing only 300 miles or so p/ year)
Hope yours sorted & that you're finally getting to enjoy it.

To be fair I think the Guzzi is a brilliant bike (just a bit wide :-[) you just can't leave them parked on muddy building sites for to long as the corrosion soon sets in.I do find it hard work keeping it at 80 though I get less buffeting on the CB.

I suppose your of down the local chippy lunchtime to pop a few wheelies in front of the girls.  ;D ;D

I had an SS50, 4 speed, yes, nowhere near as quick as the fizzy's and AP50's, but was typical Honda, totally reliable, and was often useful for running around getting spares for the 2 stroke boys, who seemed to need rebore kits on an almost monthly basis! Also, any time lost off the line starting was always gained back while the strokers were stopping to fill up with petrol with alarming frequency, and once I'd discovered that I could fit a C70 top end to it, it really flew!;-)

Ha! Been spotted at the local chippie...

Yep, that's me. But why are the girls touching their thumb & forefingers together and moving their wrists in an up & down motion...

Yours confused....

Tis all true Hairy, but hardly an accolade, "I fetch & carry spares  for the cool / fast guys. Besides love, my SS50 does 150 mpg, wanna sh*g?"

Nope... didn't cut it...

I see your point, but reliability was everything to me, still is, that's why I love old Honda's! And at 16, impressing girls was bottom of the list in my world at that time, just going out and riding was far more fun, cheaper, and less earache. Took the pedals off on my 17th birthday, and passed my test on it 5 weeks later, sold it for £275, and bought a very rough but running 750K2 for £250, then the fun really started.:-D

Thanks Alan,

I got lucky (hmm) ... posted a £4k (@ £3500 point) bid & went to bed. (3am finish where I am). Woke up.. all mine.
34 bids, learned I beat the reserve by £1.

Seller seemed v.disappoinyed.. (they typically go for £4.5-5K) and showed me some very tired eBay 'solds' @ £2800 etc. He knows 'em backwards, and had a concours one too.
But the point is, having restored 2 Honda's, I now KNOW it's a bloody sight cheaper to let someone do all the work, and buy a 'bargain'.

Engine rebuilt fully & with receipts, same with purple tank / side panels / headlamp painted by Dream Machine.

The seller told me, 90% of these bikes are never ridden, but just stored. Ugh. Being a fussy bastard (& itching to do something) I noted the frame paint is not perfect .... and so yesterday stripped it down to the last nut, and in an hour will take the frame across to Windor for powder coating. Glad I stripped it, rather devoid of grease etc.... patently rebuilt as an ornament, tho' thankfully with new (even the hidden bits) parts... eg cushs, wheel bearings etc ...thank god.

Anyways, James May's went for £7500 .... inc a buyers 25% payment.... bloody hell, I guess that means the hammer went down @ £6000. Mad...
