Horn mounting clip
« on: July 19, 2015, 04:35:39 PM »
That little chrome clip on the horn bracket is driving me potty. Can anyone explain how its meant to fit, or ideally post a picture please. The horn faces sideways, and I'd always assumed that the clip faced upwards and towards the frame to hold the throttle cables, but then I read on here somewhere that it goes the otherway round and holds the tacho cable in.
I must have spent an hour this morning pratting around with it, and I'm still none the  wiser.

Terry,
Not the best picture in the world - access is limited with the tank in place - but hopefully this will give an idea of mounting.

So the clip is on the rearmost bolt, and it's facing the spine frame tube and it's holding the throttle cables and the tacho cables against the frame. Have I got that right?

Terry,
It is on the rearmost bolt. Clip keeps throttle cables and clutch cable in place, not the tacho.

Hmm.. thanks guys think I've got mine mounted to the wrong bolt.  Nonetheless, basic idea here. Note tho' the tachometer cable is just never going to 'fit in'

I have just looked at the diagram in the setup manual again and now I am confused, as it shows the clip mounted to the front bolt.
As a 9000 mile bike I don't know that it would ever have been apart, but that doesn't mean it was 'right' in the first place.
Without taking the tank off I can't have a better look I'm afraid, although I'm sure it will do the job intended whichever bolt it is mounted to.
As previously noted, the clip holds the throttle cables and clutch cable in place, not the tacho.

I had it on the rear bolt to start with, but reading an old topic titled Coils/leads (sorry can't do the clever link) it suggested to me that the clip included the tacho cable, that's what was driving me potty trying to figure  out how it could possibly hold the tacho cable.
Thanks for the help guys. now for my next topic  ....... coils.

OK so it's the front bolt and mine is, amazingly, wrong but I have removed it before so my fault.

That's the clutch cable Steve  ;)

Anyway, glad I didn't mislay the clip. Heard they are a fortune to replace  8)

Just answering the question asked with the information I have available ....  :)
As I said, I'm sure it will do the job intended whichever bolt it is mounted to.

Probably not cheap to replace (if you can find one), but what is?
Same clip apparently also used on XL250 and 350.
