CB400F Engine Strip
« on: August 01, 2015, 10:15:14 PM »
Hi all, bike is a 1975 CB400F approx 20-25K from new. It's had a hard life. An argument with a MK1 ford Granada - repaired, locked in a workshop full of perspex which was set alight by arsonists - repaired, left in a damp lock up for over 20 years. Now being restored by me and my eldest son. I'm doing the engine, my son most everything else. I'm attaching some photos and will add to these as time goes on.

I wish you well with the project, it'll be worth it in the end.  If it's any consolation, mine was much worse than that.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

I've got a lot of the engine stripped, it wasn't seized, the bores look ok although the cam "bearings" in the head look a little worse for wear. I've been lucky so far no snapped bolts.

Brian,
As Mike said mine was worse than that. Looks a decent start and it will be worth it in the end.
Good luck, give me a shout if I can help I will.

Cheers guys. Strip down going slowly due to work / family etc  a snatched half hour here and there but progressing. The frame is completely stripped and will be going off for blasting and painting soon.

Wow. That chroming bill is going to be a big one. Good luck with the build, there's loads of 400/4s on here so tons of helpful knowledge. Cheers Roy.
