New Guy in Dublin
« on: September 07, 2015, 10:25:20 AM »
Mid life crisis got the better of me and I bought myself a Plain Jane CB 650 standard US import to potter around on and tinker with when the weather permits. Bought from Classic Bikes and Bits in Dublin, (great service) after I got fed up with all the junk and dodgy stuff being sold privately. Have the usual problem of not revving above 5,500, but not having an air filter is a good place to start. I'll sort that out when I'm back home in november. I'll be in Japan until then and hope to have a rummage around for any hard to find bits and pieces.

Welcome to the Forum Jim. You'll probably get lots of requests to buy rare HONDA bits and bobs when you return from Japan....so be prepared.......and buy a big suitcase as those HM300/341 Exhaust systems are a bit on the large side!

My Missus worked for Lufthansa many years ago and many of her Colleagues visited Hong Kong, paying for their Holiday by buying silk (and other exotic fabrics) there to order for friends and relatives back home. Their trick was to take a case which was virtually empty, and fill it with clothes for the return trip.

Once, we holidayed in Bali courtesy of Missus winning a free Business Class Flight and a cheap deal at the Hilton. All was well until she spotted some lovely Cushions in a swanky shop.........which she somehow managed to squeeze into our luggage. I remember chucking them out some years later - unused - when we moved house!
Now: 2008 CB1300S, CB750K4, 1970 Bonneville. Various other 1960's 650 Triumph T120's/ TR6's/ TR6C's (all in bits...many, many bits unfortunately). Previous: 2007 CB600FA, 1976 CB500 Four. BMW F800ST. GS750E. ZZR1100. CB1300 (2). ZXR1200S. VFR800. CB750 Nighthawk. CX500. XS500 Yam. Suzuki GT500. BSA A10. Various Lambrettas. Zundapp Bella (honest).

Welcome to the mad world of the SOHC, a member in Londonderry had a CB650 a couple of years ago.

Yes, not the most popular choice. I did set off to buy a CB350 from the dealer, but was sold before I got there.
Still it only cost me Euro 1500 and is very sound for its age. I would think it's worth keeping for a good while
