Its to do with the manufacturing tolerances of the balls and tracks mate but again i can't remember wether its tighter or looser for higher speed!! (I know mine tighten up at high speed!!).

Used to fit some 'kin big expensive ones to 85 horse 3 phase motors on board tankers

How excited was I today when I got home to find a packet had arrived. I rushed to the garage ripping the packet open and looking forward to the start of my engine rebuild.        How disappointed was I when I compared the bearings to find they are different sizes.  Oh well the saga continues!!!!

I think the problem here is a missprint in the 500/4 parts book, the two bearings are actually different sizes, the one on the countershaft is a 57 mm diameter and the one on the mainshaft is only 52mm. If you look at the part numbers for the retaining ring for the two bearings they are both different, it clearly says 52 or 57mm. So the misprint is not the part no, but the 5205 std bearing no, one of them is wrong. I also have a 550 f2 parts book and it gives same part no for the mainshaft bearing, but a different one for the countershaft bearing, in this case 91002 283 000 and the retaining clip is still the same as the old 500 manual, suggesting the two bearings are different sizes despite still saying they are both 5205 bearings! Not sure if this helps or hinders!
Love the 500 and 550 have a 500 called Lazarus under restoration

I have now ordered what i hope is the correct bearing from western hills honda usa which they say will take 6-8 days for delivery (last one in stock).  When i phoned to order the part i confirmed with the parts guy that the o/d was 57mm which is what i need.  It would seem that cmsnl have the correct part number listed but no stock.    i'll upload a couple of pics to show the bearing i got from cmsnl 52mm o/d (the wrong one) , and the old bearing i took out 57mm o/d.  also a pic to show the size of the casing where the bearing fits.   Hope this will help someone in the future when ordering this bearing.

Hi. Yes finally got the correct part from western hills honda USA.  Cost me about £80 for the part and shipping but it was the only one i could find.  Engine back together now and ready to go into the frame.  Thanks for your help.

Blooming old post I know but the bearing referred to is the same as my CB250/CB350K twins I am currently rebuilding the 3 engines for?
Bearing is the 5205HS P/N 91002-286-008.  Has anyone ever successfully ground the groove in a standard C3 high speed bearing? the ---286--- part no.is a CB250/350K twin part number BTW from1968.

Please see this post of mine regarding the output shaft corrosion.

The bearing  (5205HS 2 of them )is part of this kit from Yamiya listed for the 400/4 but not sold separately. Will have to get my 'man-in-Japan to investigate for me.

P.S. The main shaft output sprocket bearing 6305 with groove (specific to the CB750K0 diecast & sandcast  model ) is cheap from Yamiya and a Genuine Honda part (well the one I got from them was)
