David Silvers new site
« on: September 26, 2015, 04:19:33 PM »
David Silvers updated the web site last night and now its partly being blocked by Ad-block. The parts being blocked are the search for model and part numbers. I have emailed Easylist (the blocklist maintainers) but for now you will have to Whitelist the site. I have informed David Silvers who know about the problem. Steve can probably advise you more on this. Cheers Roy.

Naive mistake by his web designers. They should know better.

They said they couldn't address the issue on the site. Strange. They didn't even know it was happening until I told them. Gave me a load of crap about CTRL F5 etc. They are going to loose a lot of business if they don't address it, as part search is their best asset. I have emailed Easylist to get them to take the block off, don't know if that will help. You may have to tell them how Steve.

That would explain a few things then. Back to the telephone then.

Maybe I should have explained how to Whitelist the Silvers site in Ad-block.

If your using Ad-block (which a great many people do these days) you should have a small red icon in the top right corner of your browser that has ABP in it. That's the Ad-block icon.

Navigate the browser to the David Silvers site and the parts search will probably be missing. Click the red icon. You should see a tick next to "enabled on this site" click on the tick. Ad-block will now deactivate on the Silvers site and the domain should be added to the Whitelist.

Hope that helps guys. And Mr Silvers get your Web Programmers to sort it out.

They said they couldn't address the issue on the site.

They have designed a site (presumably using pop-ups) that is flagged by ad blockers. This is not a good idea. Even if you whitelist it with "Ad-Block", there are dozens of others out there.

Better to design it properly in the first place.  You don't actually need pop-ups.

+1 on that Steve. Boy are they going to loose customers if they don't address it.

Loose = not tight, about to fall off.

Lose = can't find it, fallen off, now lost
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

Just got this reply back from Adblock (Easylist)

Hi Roy,
Thanks for reporting!
This should now be fixed if you manually update your filters.
Best,
MonztA

So basically if you update your Adblock filters manually its all fixed (this will happen automatically if you wait a few days).
Job done. Bet I don't even get a thank you from David Silvers, a nice credit note to spend on bits would be nice. Some hope.
