There are two connectors on the carbs and two on the tap join them up

So in both positions the fuel tap sends fuel to both carbs every time?
Thanks

That's exactly how it should work, although many years ago I had a 750K2, and for some reason the tap blocked internally and starved cylinders 3 and 4 of fuel, took ages to work out what was happening, tried new points, condensor, plugs, coil, hotwired the coils in case of a break in the loom. An expensive and long winded way to find out it was the fuel tap!

Going back to the leaking fuel tap.
I've notice that the cup gasket has a tiny cut in it; although it has not split yet it does not serve its purpose.
I have an over spillage of fuel once the cup is full
I need to buy a new washer/gasket.
Can I use one for plumbing purposes or it has some particular properties or shape?

Thanks

Bet you wish you hadn't cancelled the order for the seal you accidentally ordered now!
I think the seal is just an O-ring but you need to make sure it is suitable for use with fuel, which 'standard' plumbing ones may not be.
I have a box of assorted O-rings which say they are suitable for use with fuel oils and petrol.
The inner thread diameter of the bowl of a spare tap I have is approx. 23mm, and I have found an O-ring that fits that.
The ones I have might be a bit thicker than the original but I think they should do the job.
If you PM me your address I'll send you one of these O-rings so you can try it.
If your thread diameter is different then let me know and I'll see if I have a suitable size

Chris the o seal just arrived many thanks.
Unfortunately it's too small.
The inner diameter of the cup is approximately 26mm.
Shame i didn't measure it before you sent it.

I owe you one.
Thanks

No problem, it was worth a shot.
I have larger ones but they are a larger cross section than the one I sent so I think would be too thick.
I think any O-ring of a suitable material would do the job - it needs to fit inside the threaded portion where the bowl screws in so slightly larger than 26mm outside diameter.
Pity you didn't go for the bowl I came across and gave you the link for that came complete with a new seal, but that's the benefit of hindsight!.

problem solved (I hope for the long term)
I went down to my diy store (b&q) and I found a set of 6 plumbing O ring washer 3 different sizes two each @ £1.38
Fitted on the cup i am not sure if they are fuel resistant but since I fitted it I have no leak.

hopefully Ive managed to save at least a fiver.

Here's hoping they are ethanol resistant, if they do fail, it'll leak that saved fiver faster than you can blink! Let us know if it's still okay in a month or so, if it works it'll be handy to know about easily available locally,as it always seems to be late on a Saturday things go wrong, with no bike shops open!

How is your B&Q O ring lasting? Does it still seem to be resistant to fuel?
