head skiming

(1/1)

Rirons:
anyone know how much you can remove, and do you need to do anything else after, i.e. the compression ratio will be high and will the valves clash, does anyone know someone in west yorshire who can do it?

Trigger:
If the head is warped, it can not be by much. It must of got very hot for this to happen on a 400 head. The valves will not clash after skimming, as the tappets are fully adjustable, not like some of the modern heads which do not have saver shims. Sorry don't know anyone up north to skim a head but, should be lots of firms about.

Bullit:
If your only skimming off the warp of the head then you shouldn't be removing enough to affect clearance unless it has been done previously?

Dave_Canada:
A reputable motorcycle engine machine shop can do this easily. Specify you want minimum material removed to achieve flatness. The cylinder top face should be done as well. I assume you are trying to eliminate the oil seep from the orifice valves? Skimming does help.
