K1 Rear Mudguard on a K2
« on: November 09, 2015, 11:39:19 AM »
Has anyone successfully fitted a K1 rear mudguard to a K2 - K6. I seems the earlier one is till available where the latter is not.

I had the same conundrum when I mistakenly bought a used mudguard to find they sent me the early type. I didn't try and fit it but the mounting points looked to be the same. The issue is the rear light mounting is different so you would need the earlier light bracket as well.

It is all down to whether it is for a UK four point tail light bracket or a three point bracket, usually a USA unit.

I recently took a Dealer - Coastpath - to task on a rear mudguard he was selling on E Bay as it was described as fitting 1970 to 1976 models although it clearly had a K1 hole pattern for the rear light assembly. He responded that he had sold quite a few with no comeback, so I believe everything else fits OK and the buyer(s) had managed to work around the rear light mounting holes.

I wouldn't like to pay good money for a new chromed part and then start drilling holes in it, but as this thread suggests, if the earlier K1 mudguards are readily available - or the only ones available, then needs must.

To give Coastpath due credit, he did respond quickly and the asking price was reasonable........unlike some other Dealers.

Ha Ha just don't suggest to him he's linked with cms ! He actually gets pallet loads of rejects etc from them and ships from a warehouse in Holland next door to cms
