Confusing numbers K6
« on: February 14, 2016, 08:04:18 PM »
Just picked up another CB750K6 UK unit, so 3 now and, the numbers are getting confusing.
Date of reg 07/10/1976 with VIN 25783.. (this is a totally original bike)
Date of reg 11/03/1977 with VIN 25786..
Date of reg 01/07/1979 with VIN 25766..

I am confused as the 1979 one could be a late reg but, on the V5 it states; (DECL/D MANUF 1979) All are UK Units but, not understanding the 1979 unit, as it has a VIN number before the 1976 one. Can anyone throw any light on this ?

Or if the one declared 79 was re reg due to lost paperwork the person dating it got it wrong, which was quite common as a lot of them used the same microfiche details which i proved was incorrect for the 500's

Got the V5 back today on the K6 and under the Special notes it stated this :
Have seen this on V5's before but, only Q plated vehicles. The VIN numbers on this bike relate to around May/June 1976 for production/manufacture  (in my little black book). Anyone have any ideas why these Special notes are on this V5?

We talking engine or frame numbers Graham?

If so the 79 one may have been stood in a showroom for some time or stuck in Honda as they weren't shipped by VIN numbers, just by first one to come to hand so long as it was right colour and model.

Notes could indicate a restoration or a restored write off or declared broken but bought from a scrappers.

Frame numbers Ken
