Not sure Julie, I was watching live when the hammer went down and the auctioneer didn't say 'sold' which seemed suspicious to me. I suspect they do that when reserve is unmet

Possibly James but, if that were the case, not many of those bikes have been 'sold' today

I think they can still hammer the final price but not meet reserve...

No sale on YLY70H at 19k plus buyers premium. Talked to the owner plus the guy who originally restored it Keith Newton as they were both next to the bike, as was DS. My detective work was right, the current owner (who 1st owned it in Nov. 1970, when it was sold off after the press tests by Honda UK) bought it back off Penelope Keith's husband a few years back. I was one of 9 bikes YLY's owner  was selling such as MV's etc. DS didn't bid, he reckons he can still buy fully restored diecasts in the States for less than 10K USD and sandcasts for around 14k. DS is going to be selling bikes at the 'gift shop' at his museum, he has a nice gold 750K0 that he bought from Coy's auction on sale etc... didn't really miss out on his bargain basement stuff ... it was still there when I left later on today! Seats were from obscure models apart from CX500 one.

BTW for all of you anoraks   ;D ;D ;D... YLY 70H had a bog standard non-rolled rim, but non-scripted, rear rim.

Sorry to Stef and Tim, I missed you as no signal in the auction plus I had to keep 'Dodgy Roger' on his leash  ;D  ... I left you both text messages and hope to meet up with Tim soon at Bakewell.

Noticed a new page on the DS site last week, accessed from a new 'Used Bikes For Sale' tab on the main page and also mentioned on the 400F 'Bikes For Sale' page:
http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/USED-BIKES-FOR-SALE/
The gold K0 is the first in the list.

Here is the original auction  : Not quite as nice as I thought but suppose it was a bargain at Coy's. 'Kin buyers premium at Bonhams is 15% up to 50k plus VAT plus staggering 25% plus VAT on parts

http://www.coys.co.uk/cars/1970-honda-cb750-k0 went for 6,500  GBP at Coys plus premium at Carol Nash MCN Show earlier this year.

Regarding Bonhams/ Coy's Commission.

My Daughter put her house on the market recently. She spoke to a few Estate Agents and then picked the one she thought would be the best bet for a sale in a reasonable timescale.

Whilst 'negotiating' with her preferred Agent she seized on the comment......'We won't have any trouble selling your lovely house as we have lots of people who want a four bed extended house on your estate' and then turned their 1 1/2%  Commission into a 3/4% Commission as if it was going to be that easy, they hardly deserved the higher %.

The house was sold within a week.

Maybe there is a lesson to be learned here? If Sellers said to the Auctioneers that they were prepared to pay an agreed sum if their vehicle sold for an agreed price....and not a penny more, then they might reduce their charges.

The owner told me that about two months ago he was offered 27k for YLY 70H. So it doesn't make sense to send it to Bonhams with all the commission you have pay. Plus the guy is hoping it stays in the UK. Well the easiest way to vet the buyer is to sell it privately not to sell it at Bonhams or on eBay. The owner is from London. Perhaps he should pop it round to Frank's 'Motorcycles Unlimited' emporium  ;D ;D.  Sadly, Bonhams had not passed the Classic Bike restoration article scan link onto the owner and the guy who restored it didn't seem to have a copy.

He should of bit the hand off the fella that offered him 27k, imho the bike is not that special to warrant sandcast money and the bonhams auctions for jap classics usually ends up with very disappointing final prices, i recon ebay world wide would get him the most, or perhaps chase up the guy with 27k in his wallet

No sale on YLY70H at 19k plus buyers premium. T

Thats in total around 22.400 GBP so more or less the same as highest bid on ebay.

The seller should starting accepting this. Still a lot of money for a diecast.
cheers, Uli
