MickB, that is about what the average condition of the bikes I genrally buy start at, but I never take them further than hammerite paint job and an mot before riding them for a few years til they need doing up again. Must take a fair bit of dedication ( and outlay) to get one looking that good from that start point.
Got a 500/4 with rust and a sidecar and loadsa bits. nice and original and been round the clock

That looks very tidy and a great colour too..
Don't think mine will look like that any time soon...
I think I may get the engine sorted ....I have a few options on this and I've yet to decide which route to take..
Get it running and mechanically sound..and back on the road..
Then I may see if I can get a load of good stuff to put on it at some point...the parts I have are in pretty good shape after all it's been stored in parts since 1979 so I'm sure a lot of these can be brought back to a fair standard.
That's the plan anyway...

Excellent job you've made of that.  Well done.
Where's that 10mm socket got to?

You could always go down the route of painting the frame and getting the engine done. Then everything else is just bolt off and on parts.

Yup that's kind off the plan.
When I strip it back down frames gonna get some tlc forks rebuilt and obviously engine and carbs.
everything is going to get a good deep clean and refresh and hopefully reuse what I can.
I will look for a good used tank in the black and just keep on looking for any thing that is better than I have .
Keep the cost down and spread it out too

Do a little each time you can and it'll get done.

Just looking at v5 last night and realised this bike was registered 15/03/1972
My sons birthday is 15/03/2007
I know not quite the same being 35 years apart but a nice coincidence

Is it really a coincidence that Mothers day is 9 months after Fathers day?

Hmmm I was brn on 21st march '81, eeew. Thanks for that line of thought, still I have a similar age 500/4 , might find it shares my birthday although a decade older than me. I had a Suzuki FZ50 with the same date first registered as my birthday.
