CB750 / Re: Rear master cylinder
« on: July 31, 2017, 09:13:19 PM »
Hi all, been a while. Struggling to find time at the moment.
After trying this method for an hour I gave up and ordered a new seal kit. Turns out the seals had all expanded. New seals in took no time at all. To help others on here the rear master cylinder kit is the same as a cb750 dohc 1980. Got a new one from the bay for £20. Happy days.

Masters frequently need priming to bleed as they air lock and will not push fluid.

(1) WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES
)2) cover any painted item
(3) disconnect outlet pipe
(4) put gloved finger over outlet hole and push down pedal
(5) remove and replace finger with pedal down
(6) with finger in place release pedal

Repeat (4) through (6) until brake fluid squirts out around finger under pressure
and

Finally, with pedal down reconnect outlet pipe and bleed to caliper
Thanks for the tip. I'll give that ago later today.

CB750 / Rear master cylinder

Hi all I'm getting close (again ) to finishing, working on the electrics at the mo and in between sorting other bits out. This is where I've come across a problem with the rear master cylinder, it was seized when I bought it but I freed it up and all the rubbers were nice and soft so thought it was sorted, then on putting fluid in today it wouldn't bleed in fact nothing was goitre through so I stripped it again and I now think that the spring has lost its power has it's not returning well and seems to be soft. Is this something that is common with seized brake cylinders, is there something I should do or do I just need to buy a new kit?
Thanks.

Just seen this never received your PM. The left over cables I had went on eBay and sold instantly  I should have had more made  ::)

I used Venhill cables  http://www.venhill.co.uk/

And me. They were tip top.

Hi neilg, yep it's the deglaze type. Good idea on the barrels. I haven't got any knocking about but if someone wants me to practice on theirs I'm more than happy to give it a go. Thanks dude.

Hi neilg, I'm just asking the question as there are loads of different views and methods out there. I did not use anything the first time and had no intention of the second time but after searching for answers I came across a load of people using copper slip and sealant with good reviews, so I asked here on this forum as it's been the bible of information for a first time builder like me. Thanks for your 2 cents.

Thanks.
I'm thinking weather or not to do the piston part while I've got it stripped. It was OK and dry before so thought it would be ok but I've read that people are doing this at the same time as the head because of movement. Any thoughts?

CB750 / Head gasket sealing?

Right my new OE head gasket has arrived so I'll be fitting it sometime this week ( got to get some oil seal metal tubes). Due to the last one being slightly out I want to cover all bases as it's costing me more than I can really afford now.
I've spoke to several different people and want to know what people here think about using copper slip or blue hyolmar or nothing. Ideas ?
