CB750 / Rear master cylinder
« on: June 18, 2017, 11:55:27 PM »
Hi all I'm getting close (again ) to finishing, working on the electrics at the mo and in between sorting other bits out. This is where I've come across a problem with the rear master cylinder, it was seized when I bought it but I freed it up and all the rubbers were nice and soft so thought it was sorted, then on putting fluid in today it wouldn't bleed in fact nothing was goitre through so I stripped it again and I now think that the spring has lost its power has it's not returning well and seems to be soft. Is this something that is common with seized brake cylinders, is there something I should do or do I just need to buy a new kit?
Thanks.

CB750 / Head gasket sealing?
« on: April 23, 2017, 04:22:51 PM »
Right my new OE head gasket has arrived so I'll be fitting it sometime this week ( got to get some oil seal metal tubes). Due to the last one being slightly out I want to cover all bases as it's costing me more than I can really afford now.
I've spoke to several different people and want to know what people here think about using copper slip or blue hyolmar or nothing. Ideas ?

CB750 / Clutch cable
« on: March 04, 2017, 08:07:03 AM »
Hi, while my bike is in bits again I am going to replace the clutch cable as it's a bit tight. This is due to using slightly higher and longer bars. Can anyone recommend a direct replacement that is a 50mm longer?
Thanks.

CB750 / Removing head with engine in.
« on: February 18, 2017, 02:03:12 PM »
So just noticed that number one cylinder is blowing air back through the carb. I've slackened of the tappets and although not as bad it's still there. Bad times.
I don't want to take the engine out so what are the thoughts of people on here about doing it with the engine in place.
Is it possible that the seats are original from the days of leaded?
Please help I'm a bit down after how close I was to finishing.
Thanks. Steve.

Project Board / Insurance while building
« on: January 07, 2017, 11:22:08 PM »
Hi all,
A few of you good folks out there know that I'm in the middle of the build at the mo and all of you know these bikes cost a lot of money to get going. After doing a few quick calculations in my head I'm aware that if there was a theft or fire I would be well out of pocket.
Any ideas about insurance while the bike has no MOT and hasn't been on the road since 1998. I don't even know what it's worth!

So I need an insurance company recommendation and a rough way of calculating what I should insure it for.
Thanks.

Steve.

CB750 / Recommend speedo change
« on: December 12, 2016, 08:28:49 PM »
Hi all.
Anyone out there recommend a replacement speedo for my 1978 cb750. I'm after one that will be the same ratio and is not digital. Dummy lights would be an advantage.
Thanks.
Steve.

Project Board / Top yoke replacement
« on: November 17, 2016, 04:38:15 PM »
Dose anyone know of a direct replacement top yoke for the cb750 that dose away with the bolt retainers for the speedo, ignition and dummy lights. I'm looking for a cleaner look as I'm doing away with the whole cockpit.
Thanks
 Steve.

CB750 / Speedo change
« on: October 30, 2016, 02:21:16 PM »
Hi all I'm going to change my speedo and loose the the rev counter. Thanks to info already on here I know that I need a 2240:60 ratio, but I'm after a speedo with the warning lights and I'm struggling to find one I like here in the uk, however I've found a couple I do like which say "2240:60 which is 2:1:1" dose anyone know if this is true, as I thought that 2240 was closer to 3:1 than 2:1:1?
Thanks. Steve.

CB750 / Engine builders please
« on: October 24, 2016, 07:58:13 PM »
Hi all can you tell me if this washer is in the right place. When I took the cover off to change it the washer was at the back. I've had to take the cover off again ( doing the tappets thought this was the easiest way to turn the crank) and looking at several pictures the washer is at the front.
So can anyone tell me which way it is.

Other Bikes / 1998 xr250r
« on: September 29, 2016, 10:51:28 PM »
Well while I keep making mistakes with my 1978 cb750 sohc I needed to get something to ride so I got myself a proper rough and ready xr250. It's got different screws and bolts all over, there are cable ties where there shouldn't be and although I've only had it two days I've already had to replace  the rear shock bushes (done lower upper on order).
All that said and the fact that I haven't even got it into 3rd gear yet (no tax or helmet) I bloody love it.
It's been rebored to 278cc had a new jet and been rebuilt 3 years ago. It starts on 2nd or 3rd kick and has the looks that only a mother would love.
I could do with a replacement silencer if anyone has one to sell I might be interested.
Any advice out there would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. Steve.

CB750 / Pictures of f2 battery box please
« on: September 18, 2016, 09:21:33 PM »
Hi all, right, first thanks to all the input regarding "will the tyre clear" those who have viewed that post know the mess I got into with that so I'm looking at new ideas, one of these is to put the new m-unit and rectifier over the original battery on a removable tray.
I didn't take any pics when I stripped it all so I'm struggling to see how much space I'll have when its built up so has anyone got any pics of their under seat battery box looking from above and to the side.
I've put mine together but I think I'm missing something as there is quite a bit of room.
Thanks. Steve

Project Board / Will the tyre clear??? Please help. Start again.
« on: September 11, 2016, 11:32:33 AM »
Thanks to yozzer after spending all day yesterday fabricating the seat tray for the new electrics he pointed out to check the clearance.
There's no weight on it as its a bare frame with the back end jacked up all the way under is own weight and no bushes in the swing arm I've got about 45mm. I've bought new Hagon shocks to go on.
Will this be ok?
