CB750 / First Gear Crunch
« on: September 14, 2019, 09:55:44 AM »
Engaging first gear on my 1973 CB 750 K3 always crunches.
Unless this is a known problem, which I doubt, then I'd like to have a look at the clutch plates for potential contamination.
I've bought a castellated nut removal tool to effect clutch removal.
Question is: does oil seep out when removing the clutch?
Any other "gotchas" when working on the clutch?

(I've read the manual and tried a search, but to no avail.)

CB750 / Gear Box Outer Cover
« on: July 04, 2019, 03:06:24 PM »
I'm trying to track down why I'm getting 0 volts at the oil pressure warning light.
I suspect that the oil pressure switch has failed.
My limited knowledge of these bikes tells me that the switch is located at the back of the crankcase on the left side.
As such, I'm trying to remove the outer gear box cover, but it goes only so far:

I can get my finger tips in between the cover and the crankcase, but the wretched cover won't budge any further.
How do I remove this cover without resorting to brute force and ignorance?

BTW, a fair amount of oil came out, which I wasn't expecting.

CB750 / P & K Seat Covers
« on: June 20, 2019, 05:47:43 PM »
Does anyone have first-hand experience of P & K seat covers?
Is the quality any good, and how close to original are they?
My seat cover is all wrong, and doesn't have the "Honda" logo at the rear end:

TIA!

CB750 / Valve Inspection Cap O-Rings
« on: May 31, 2019, 01:30:18 PM »
Does anyone know the size of the O-rings for the valve inspection caps?
I've tried the search function to no avail.
I prefer to buy decent O-rings in Viton, and have a few in stock, rather than pay silly OEM prices.
Thanks!

CB750 / Side Panel Confusion (For Me)
« on: May 23, 2019, 11:34:12 AM »
I'm new to Hondas in general, and the CB 750 in particular, even though I had a CB125S and CB360 back in the day.
My problem is the side panels that are currently fitted to my 1973 US spec. K3.
It would appear that the panels have had their badge indents filled in:

Also, the paint on the right side panel is very poor and lumpy:

Given what I have, I have some questions for the cognoscenti.
Is it worth keeping these panels, even though they're going to be painted?
I've done some searching on the forum, and the LPM panels are the ones to go for, should I decide to replace.
This site indicates that K1 - K6 panels are all the same, yet the K1 - K2 badges appear to be very different from those for K3 - K6.
I cannot see how K3 - K6 badges would fit the indents in these panels.
David Silver Spares indicates that K3 jewels are red, yet my investigations tell me that orange is the correct colour.
Which is correct?

Project Board / My 1973 CB750 K3
« on: May 19, 2019, 08:07:04 PM »
My imported CB750 arrived from Southampton docks the other day.
Initial impressions are that it's essentially a complete bike, but it could do with some refurbishment.

I'll try to post progress as and when, but don't hold your breath.

New Member Introductions / Newbie from Somerset with 750 K3
« on: March 23, 2019, 11:06:39 AM »
It's customary to introduce oneself to any new forum, so here's mine.
I'm a member of quite a few forums for the very good reason that there's a mine of useful information on them.
I'm retired, and my formative years are the seventies.
As such, I seek out old motor cycles from my youth, in order to relive my youth.
To date I have restored a '68 Triumph Bonneville T120R, a '74 Triumph Trident T150V, and a '74 Norton Commando 850.
As I refuse to pay silly UK prices, I sourced all those bikes from the US with the help of my buddy, Dave, in Illinois.
The most expensive was £2400 + shipping - you don't have to pay over the odds.
Anyway, enough of the background rambling, and I'll cut to the chase.

With my US buddy brokering the deal, I have just bought what appears to be a very complete 1973 Honda CB750 K3.
In keeping with my philosophy of not paying too much, this venerable steed cost me a very reasonable $2000 - £1515 in my money.
I think the seller undersold, as he spent $1300 last year on carburation, ignition, front tyre, and a few other jobs.
It's a good runner, although Dave says that it has a "stumble" at high RPM - I presume he means a misfire.
It even has the original 4 into 4 exhaust system, which I believe is NLA.

It's going to take a couple of months to arrive here in the UK, so in the interim I'm going to bone up about these bikes.
I've posted a few pictures, and I'd be interested to hear what you folks think.
BTW, the paint job does resemble something from Jackson Pollock!
