Title: CB750K6 UK Frame Name Plate / VIN Plate
Post by: Phil9886 on May 21, 2020, 06:03:49 PM
Hi. Does anyone have a photo of a UK K6 frame name plate?  The frame number is stamped on the frame but the plate is missing (left off after a re-spray). I can get hold of a USA version but that references Federal Law - or did the UK K6 have the same name plate as the USA version? Thanks. Phil

The UK plate is different from the USA one. When I get a moment, I will take a photo of our UK K6 VIN plate and PM it over to you.

I had a bloody senior moment there 🙄🙄🙄
No UK 750/4's or 500/4's have VIN plates, they just have the stamping in the headstock. So no, I won't be sending you a photo as there is nothing to photograph. I have just looked at all our 750/4's up to K6, all UK models and not one VIN plate in sight because they never came with them.

Ah, OK Bryan. All our 750's are up to 76 so that's why none were fitted to ours then.

OK. But the K3 750 was a USA model so that would have the standard USA VIN plate.
When I mentioned it to Trig, he said you 'know damned well UK 750's up to and including K6 don't have plates', which I do 😂😂😂 I think my brain needs a defrag to clear out a load of shite  like the computer does 😭😭😭😭

Thanks everyone for the help. What a great forum! I'm at the end of a restoration that's taken 10 years with most parts bought brand new from CMSNL and David Silver Spares. I'm at the point of putting the engine in the frame so will be asking advice on how best to do that soon. How do you get something that heavy in the frame without damaging it? ! Thanks again. Phil

That's an easy one, lay engine on its side and lift the frame on.

Phil - the ‘frame over the engine’ method is the safest, most controllable I’ve found.

The key is to get the engine on its side, completely vertical, and lower the frame over the engine so the engine is entering the RIGHT side of the frame.

Ideally it’s a 2-person job - but can be done on your own...

This is how I got my engine out....nd how it will go back in. I am making a wooden 'support' with a few correctly sized blocks on a piece of 18mm ply in the right places to support the engine. Teh I will glue on some old carpet.

I want it solid...and I don't want the weight ending up on the points cover.

If your bike's already built up in rolling chassis form here's how you can refit the motor single handedly and without damage to the frame etc.

You need a smooth concrete garage floor so the bike can be pushed side ways towards the motor.

Refitting the motor photos are near the end, apologies for linking the full photo album.

That's really helpful. The bike is a rolling chassis now so the last method will probably be the one I go for. Thanks again. Kind regards. Phil

I would do it the way James has said, by lowering the frame on the engine. This is the only way that you can guarantee  that you will not damage the paint  ;)

You could also try this; I did it this way.

I found that If you first remove the cam box breather cover the motor fits in easier.
Also you're probably less likely to damage the frame paint.

BTW
Sean, thanks for the excellent Belfast to Belfast blog it's a fascinating read.
