Title: Is there a tank repair place near Northampton?
Post by: Oggie400F on January 25, 2020, 04:35:42 PM
Does anyone know of a reputable tank repair shop local to Northampton?

Just been speaking to my Brother in law who is putting a 1963 CB72 back on the road but the tank is leaking.

Or does anyone know of a good CB72 tank for sale?
Thanks

I live near Northampton and wanted a tank repaired recently but don’t know of a tank repairer nearby.I recently found a place  that would repair my tank in Devon. tankcareproducts@hotmail.com
I thought they were a bit pricey at £750  so bought another tank from a member on here.

Try looking for a radiator repair place, preferably an old school one

Thanks Dave
My BIL isn’t short of a bob or too but he is weeping into his beer, as we speak, at the thought of £750. 😢
He’s now considering lining and or patching. I’ve no experience of lining tanks but haven’t heard good reports of decent results about this.
A good replacement would be my choice.

Will do.
I’m encouraging him to register as a new member and use the wealth of knowledge, help and advice that is available first hand.
I’ll make sure he’s signed up before he leaves us in Hull today.

He will send me some pics on his return to Sywell and I’ll post them to this topic.

Loads of people in the Northampton area. There is a old boy out on the A5199 who does tank restorations and illusion race paint in Stoke Bruerne but, I think he may have moved to Towcester.

I'm about to use this company in Pickering, North Yorks.  I found them through Classic Bike, they have a website that's worth a look.
I'm using them to remove some dents on the alloy fuel tank of my Triton.  They quoted me £265 after looking at some photos I sent them.  They also advise they can repair leaks in tanks so maybe what you need?
I will be sending my tank to them this week.

I’ve used Andy on a couple of occasions now, and his work is excellent.

Initially, the price quoted doesn’t seem cheap - but compared to the cost of a repaint, it’s often a bargain.

Check out this K2 750 tank dent....

Andy in Pickering quoted me £140 +VAT to take a dent out of my 750 tank. Supposed to be one of the best there is and as JamesH says not that bad when you consider the cost and hassle of a repaint. If you drop off it's a lovely area to visit too (well it is Yorkshire after all  ;D) and you could drop in at Mathewsons and see the stars of the TV programme 'Bangers & Cash'  :D

My car was damaged in a hailstorm ( golf ball sized ) several hundred dents and a company called Dentmasters repaired back to dentfree without breaking the paint cost £4K mind you, wonder if they’d do dents on fuel tanks?

Finally got the tank from my b.i.l. Who has been unsuccessful in finding a repairer in the Northampton area.
Hear are some pics of the corrosion.  Any suggestions on repair methods would be appreciated.
I do have an option of taking it to a welder in Knottingly (Russell who welded my 400/4 collector box).
He has repaired tanks in the past.
Cheers
Ian

I used these guys to fit a tyre but discussed tank work with them. In the unit there’s also a guy who builds awesome one off machines.
Hanslope is not far from Northampton.
