Title: RamAir - Universal cut to shape panel of twin core Ramair Aeriform foam
Post by: totty on July 11, 2011, 01:28:09 PM
I've just gutted an old 550 airfilter and replaced the element with some of this foam and I'm quite pleased with the results.
For half the price of a new filter I got enough foam to do 4, fitting it was a very simple job with a glue gun and Stanley knife, and best of all it's made a massive mid rpm improvement - although it obviously wouldn't do that for a well jetted bike, mine had a bad flat spot.
I can't comment on how well it lasts or filters but it looks allot better quality than other foam filters I've used in the past.

Here's a link to their ebay shop http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Ramair-Filters-0844-858-4658 (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Ramair-Filters-0844-858-4658)

interesting how it affects mid range running,my k3 is standard everything but seems to lack mid range and also has a flat spot just over tickover (see "slugish 550")Might try without filter and se if that makes difference.

Check out this article on the US site on the mid range flat spot http://www.sohc4.net/?p=275 (http://www.sohc4.net/?p=275)

I found raising the needles (lower clip one notch) helped allot but it still wasn't quite right so I was going to try further jetting changes, but after changing the filter it's miles better.

What I find a bit odd is I had previously tried it with and without a filter and it made no noticable difference to the flat spot, but I'm not certain of the order I tried it in so it may have been before raising the needles.

I didn't try the suggested ignition changes as I have a Boyer kit fitted.
