Title: Socks - aaaaargh!
Post by: Orcade-Ian on April 12, 2017, 10:54:29 AM
I've spoken to lots of folk - with and without bikes about this topic - is there anywhere that proper socks can be bought?  Not just for biking but for everyday use - in recent times they seem to be made from some kind of re-constituted s hite instead of spun yarn.  The consequence of this, apart from always thinking you have something foreign trapped inside the sock, is the perpetual bollockings for leaving lumps of fluff all over the carpets!
In the 'olden days' you had to check if a sock was inside out (in Orkney they say outside in) but now it's glaringly obvious from the matted fluff inside.

Help!!!

Ian

I've been using these since Nov last year ,Everyday pretty much with toetectors and have found them really good.
Yes they can make your feet fluffy after the first couple of wares, but after that seem fine.

Thanks guys and Julie for the replies - did you knit those butterfly socks yourself - they look like the right material?

Might try a pack of those work socks but at that price I suspect they might go the way of all the others.

No, I don't knit them myself, they come from Asda / Sainsbury's and such like. They probably do Men's ones, without the logos though  ;D. Never get bobbles.

Glad it's not just me wot is daft!
Thanks too to Bryanj- I used to get H&J 'indestructible' socks but haven't seen them for years - I assume the Industrial version is just what I need - none here in Orkney and they say it's the best place to live!
Off on a bike trip 'darn sarf' in a few weeks so will check in the big cities where they have shops with electric light.

Thanks all,
Ian

I have a pair of khaki socks  bought for me when I joined the Scouts in the early 1970's. Still in good nick I think they may be made of the same stuff as aeroplane black boxes.

I have a few singleton socks, kept in case their partner ever shows up. I have suggested that maybe I could donate them to a landmine charity, but the wife thinks that's sick.
