Oh & also some more parts for CB550k3:
Front wheel, 19x3.25: used condition, some surface rust, useable.
Front wheel mudguard and support stay. chrome in good condition, (but has one deep scratch on one place)
rear mudguard, solid good condition, some patina marks in the chrome.
(& x2 RHS 'K3' exhausts, as in my separate post)

I have a hub! I think it is a 550k3. I bought it for the same reason (cracked liner, then I was offered a wheel, so now it is surplus to requirement.) The liner is not cracked, measures approx 178mm I/D. £10 pus postage Or collect in Gloucestershire. If interested, I do have: The Bearing Retainer removal tool. Only just seen this post. But I have an original horn off a CB550K3 1977. In Working order (a nice 'honk' sound, not your modern 'peep-peep' ) Chrome comes with a certain 'patina'. Plastic at the back is intact. Maybe useful to you? £10 plus postage? Sent from my SM-A505FN using Tapatalk

I have x2 RHS exhausts for Honda CB550k3. These are genuine Honda/Sankei exhausts for cylinders 3 & 4. Good solid condition. Chrome is good. But there is some 'gravel rash' at the end of the silencers.
Collection only in Cheltenham Glos. open to sensible offers.

Thanks Guys for all your inputs. I will get a price for the reworks and go from there, as stated I am in no hurry.
I believe these bike will become in a few years the next collectable so best to invest now. I will upload pics of the new bike once I get it, I will then get the cover off that one and see what its like.
I may have two that need repair !
I recommend checking the splines for any backlash, on the gearbox output shaft, for the drive sprocket. Splines were completely shot on my resto project!

I restored one 2 years ago to a very high standard. Had 25k miles, 2 previous owners. A great midsized sports tourer, is how I describe it, a great free reving engine. The rear shock was quite "dull" despite full refurbishment. Yes the brakes were "novel" but were better than a cb550sohc front disk (not difficult!). New cast vented disks are like hens teeth, cast with 3 perimeter lugs, must've costed a fortune. I did have an oem Honda 4-2 set of pipes, looked spectacular as well as a good deep sound. Shame I had to have a clear out & sold it to a guy in Gloucestershire.... Sent from my SM-A505FN using Tapatalk

Andy, what's the problem with splitting the carbs - I can see that splitting all four is a problem as it is necessary to remove the choke assys but is there an issue in splitting them 2 and 2. I am not sure that all four will fit into my ultrasonic cleaner and I do want to give them a good clean.
Keith, I just didn't want the hassle of re-aligning the slider/choke linkage nor the fuel transfer lines/seals...

Hi Keith, It was a few years ago that I stripped, cleaned and rebuilt my PD carbs on my 550k3. I recommend new gaskets for the float bowls, deffo. I've not seen that top gasket issue with holes out of place. You may be able to punch out a new hole; and leaving the odd hole redundant (but you can judge that easily by removing a top cap to inspect the ports). Just to share my experience with PD carbs.... I thought/hoped a thoroughly good clean would do the trick. But alas, I could NEVER achieve a steady tick-over and always ran VERY lean. To cut a long story short..... I bought & fitted new Float Needle Valves, I set Float Height to 14.5mm (both of these are a MUST), By all means ultra sonic clean the carbs. But don't bother trying to clean/ultra sonic or solvent clean the Slow jets, they are just too tiny. NEW Slow Jets "#42" were a MUST for me, & instantly it produced a steady tickover! [some sources say "#38" Slow Jet, but go for #42]. Set Pilot Jets to "1+1/2 turns out" from closed. For top-end running, I increased the Main Jets to "#95" (from #90) to cure the lean running. I left the Needles and clip positions unchanged, middle pos'n#3 [I bought my Jets from SCI www.siriusconinc.com - before DSS & CMSNL had anything] One final piece of advice, DO keep the set of four carb bodies all linked together as one assembly; you can still work on each carb, alongside each other. Oh & after many grazed knuckles, I could get that bank of carbs out and back into the bike within 2 hours! (just don't ask me 'how' now!) Good luck & persevere!
