Evening all. Sorry got another question. I’ve had my 400/4 a few months now and was wondering how much oil its normal to use? I estimate that I’ve used about 1.5 litres and riden about 800 miles. Is that about normal or have I a problem? There’s no obvious oil leak that I can see and haven’t noticed blue smoke out of the exhaust.
Blimey..I can’t remember ever having to top up oil on my 400, yours seems to have a problem if it uses that sort of amount I’m at about 20K miles with mostly original metal parts but new seals and other bits and pieces.......Dave

Yes. Me too. I now prefer the Manx. But after 42 consecutive TT's I find it a hard ride to get off.
Hello, blimey 42 visits to the TT back to back is dedication, doing both in one year is expensive. I just do the TT now only because of cost.......Cheers Dave

I bought 2 full exhaust systems from D.S.S. in 1987, including all clamps, brackets gaskets etc, £148 each plus vat (15%). Put one set on my bike, sold the other on in the mid 90's for £450, thinking I'd done alright out of that. Wish I'd kept the second set now to sell today! The downpipes/collector on their own were £39+ vat at that point.

I bought a complete system for my 400 from DSS for less than 400 quid about 15 years ago and 500 miles in 1980 something my Honda dealer wanted 1200 quid for a full system....I bought a Motad system back then but it never sounded the same.

So here’s the thing I don’t get, how do you drive a motorcycle? I for one for the last 45+ years have always referred to it as riding! Can someone enlighten me as to where/how drive a motorcycle came about?
Hello, I’m guessing it originates from having a driving licence not a riding licence? Who knows....cheers Dave

Been looking for a new silencer for the CB400 four I've just bought. I have found the davidsilverspares one but was wondering if anyone is using a different brand or a different style of silencer.
Nothing sounds quite like the Honda silencer or look the part but are not available. I think these days you just have to get a copy and live with looks/sound I’m not sure of all the options around these days but I’m guessing no a big choice out there.... cheers Dave

Seems from all the replies praising Menno that he is the man when it comes to painting Just sent off an e mail enquiring about painting mine Ross
Don’t forget to source the correct speedo face/speedo the small details count, not that I’m a washer and nut counter I’ve updated my 77 blue bike with a few parts from older and newer 400/4’s including the F2 single stay front mudguard and cast wheels from the 398cc Japanese spec race bike Honda produced to bump up sales.....cheers Dave

Hi Im sure i will be put right My 1978 f2 400/4 is in Light Ruby Red Is this the correct colour for this model as i have only seen f2 in Candy Antares Red or Parakeet Yellow with tank stripes Has there been a crossover between these models Thanks
Hello, what other than the 78 reg makes you think the the bike should be other than the red? I think a lot of bikes sat around in boxes waiting to be sold. All of the candy and yellow new bikes I seen in shops had a speedo with mph and a green inner kph gauge fitted. I have 77 S plate in blue came with only a mph speedo....cheers Dave
Interesting. I have never, ever seen an original UK CB400/4 with anything other than MPH and KMH clocks fitted. I have seen USA imports with only MPH clocks fitted though. I can't recall seeing a Varnish blue S reg in the UK either. Maybe i just haven't noticed though 🤔
My Blue bike now has a Speedo face of a yellow bike that came Canada. I always liked the idea of having both after a trip to the south of France with only mph....cheers Dave

Hi Dave My question was My bike is ruby red As a f2 model should it be Antares Red As the f2 I've seen seem to be either Antares Red or Parakeet Yellow My speedo also only in MPH Is yours a f2 if so it blows my theory out of the water Although Nurse Julie seems to agree Mine should be Antares Ross
Hello Ross, unless you know the person who originally bought the bike you will never be 100% sure of the original colour. I would say given you have a mph speedo red is original. I may be wrong on the speedo but I’m sure I’m not .......cheers Dave
