Title: CB550K3 generator oil seal replacement
Post by: Ashdowner on July 29, 2016, 12:30:47 PM
Does anyone know if it's possible to replace the oil seal behind the generator without splitting the crankcases?

I think it has a lip on it that fits into a groove so will have to be split :(

You have to split the cases to do it correctly

Only ever had one weep a bit, and that stopped weeping oil after a few hundred miles, and no it didn't run out of oil, just went from a nasty trickle to totally dry over the course of a weeks commuting, lost 100ml in the first 20 miles, I thought it was a bad un then, 40 miles later it had inproved a lot. That was a Usa inport engine, I think as the seal was warmed and softened by oil it regained its integrity.

Mathewmosse may have the answer cos it only started after bringing the bike out of the winter hibernation and now I think of it there I haven't seen any spots of oil recently.
