New here and thought it would be a great place to share my progress (as well as ask for a whole heap of help).
Recently acquired a 78' CB750 K8 from a chap that imported it from the states a good few years back now with the intention of turning into a cafe racer.
I've included some pics and will share my progress as I go on.
Most of the parts will not be going back on the bike and are in good condition, so please feel free to drop me a message if you need anything.

Just a quick update really... I've started to strip the bike down and still have quite a way to go, but as you can see we're without the seat, headlight, battery, pegs and tank badges.
Have various bits and pieces on order and am considering switching out the tank for a GS650. Would prefer a mid-70's CB750f Supersport tank. But after wasting several hours scouring the net earlier today, it appears they are incredibly hard to find!
Any thoughts, comments, advice very much welcomed.

What about a 400 four tank they fit straight on or cx 500 they look good on the 750
I have looked at the 400f tank, but it has a slightly sharper angle than the CB750f. The CX500 one does look pretty cool, though. I'll have a play around on Photoshop later and see what I think!

I got one of those pipes from carpys.fit is quite poor on them .did sound nice though.i have had a pipe for my new build made . which was around the same price .but fits great and made out of stainless.
That's such a shame. From the videos they do sound pretty tasty!
Do you have any pictures of the one you got made and details on who made it?

This may be of use from when I was playing with ideas for a similar project. Don't laugh guys very rough ideas and scale not really right etc. I was toying with the idea of welding 2 tanks together per a rather tasty black cafe built by a member on here ( think he was Swedish user name DME?).What about a 400 four tank they fit straight on or cx 500 they look good on the 750

Hi Rob!
I checked out the Delkevic products, and they look great - a bunch of people on YouTube seem to be using them on their builds and say they quality is very good and the price is even better!
My only qualm with them, and this is purely only based on aesthetics, is the springs. I wonder if I could get away with not using them? If so, do we know what problems that may cause?
Keep me posted on yours and I'll deliberate in the meantime ;)

Offfft! I am really digging that tank on this. This is the CX500, yes?
It definitely gives the bike a very mean look - did you go ahead with the project or is it still in the works?

As I say scale in my picture isn't correct, just a cut, paste and stretch job of various pictures. If you like the idea do some research on internet on tank stretching DME did. Think it was on sister .net site. However stock CX tank could work nicely anyway. One thing you need to look at is mounting for final visual look. CX tank sits at a bit of an angle towards headatock on original bike.

Just put a Delkavic on my GS1000. Sounds really good but the fit was not great, I had to send one pipe back for rebending and adjust the length of another. Also the silencer does appear to stick out a bit too far, but it is the version with the long can on it.
How does it compare to the photo on their website?..
A photo of your pipe, or even better a video, would be nice..

I see what you mean although it looks better on the view from the top than the view from behind. I like the tyres, i do like to see modern rubber on classic jap bikes...Yes I see what your saying about the rear view. It is actually a bit of a camera angle thing, it's not too bad. I would have just tucked it in a little more if I had been making it. Sounds really good though. Just had a photo back from Menno about the tank, good job I sent it to him really.

Just a brief update on where I'm at, and boy I'm slow at this!
Everything has been removed now, with the exception of the oil tank and wheels which should be off tomorrow hopefully.
James here on the SOHC forum kindly swung by mid week and provided me with the Supersport tank I was after (shown in last picture), which has saved me countless hours scrolling through eBay - so thank you so much for that!
Next steps (although unsure of order) will be send the hubs off to have new 18" front and back wheels made up, cut down the frame to weld on a seat hoop and install the new rear sets.
Now... off to order parts and spend all of my hard earned cash!
