You're right the K3 was the better tourer. The offered riding position was and is perfect. On the continent the K3 was marketed as the tourer version of the somewhat sportier F2.

The K3 to me was always uglier than the 500-4 it was based on, the best part about the 500-4 for me was the view from the back, it look sleek but fast and those 4 exhausts just looked awesome. The K3 exhausts just don't look right to me, either they splay out to much or they are the wrong shape but they don't suit the bike. The 750 and 500 fours got the exhausts perfect, why honda felt they had to change a winning look I have no idea, maybe it was because they thought it was starting to look dated but it seems now that the dated look is far more attractive than the later one.
I agree. The exhausts aren't so bad really and one has to admit they produce little and a nice turbinelike sound. It's those horrible monsterbig indicators and rearlight, the also cheaplooking dashboard, the colours. I don't like the carbs either, a PITA to work on. Seat height would be ok for me though.

The US K2 had the old tank striping, like in the second picture I posted. The European K2 had the striping as shown on mine. The German 1976 will be like mine.

Cheers lads, all the info points to K2 at the moment.
Which K2? The CB500K2 [A] (marketed in 1973) or the CB500K2 [ED,F,G] (marketed in 1976)?

I can't recall a K0 with a black tank.
Mine, a CB500K2 '76 [ED,F,G] with the newer striping is Excel Black (NH-57). Does this help?

The curved one is to adjust the rear shocks.

The 500 with 649A carbs (78 main jets) and airbox cover performed equally well as models with the 627B carbs (100 main jets). Top speed in Dutch and German tests prooved 179 km/h. BTW, I never managed more than 170 km/h @ 8500 rpm, but I weigh 90 kg, am 196 cm tall and was not dressed like a test pilot. On the dyno my bike reached the theoretical top speed of 185 km/h @ 9250 rpm.
Many years ago, out of curiosity I tested with 100 main jets and the airbox cover removed on the road. Germans did the same. With standard 4 in 4 exhausts it didn't bring anything but extra intake noise, but feel free to experiment. Needle standard is in 3rd (middle) groove, air screw is one turn out +/- 1/8. Slow jet is 40. Stock paper filter element is best. Float level is 22 mm (but is always right unless somebody messed with them).

Bryan, maybe people have read the wrong manual, knowing the Note in italics in Clymer on p. 26.

They are generally for wheel alignment but I am yet to come across a bike, new or old, where these seem to mean anything in relation to wheel alignment.

?
Can you shed some more light. Mine (CB500) seem to be allright.

Old style Kei-hins like the 069A are easier to work on. If your K3 is already modified (airfilter, exhaust) I see no objection.
