CB500/550 / CB500K0 wiring harness clip position
« on: February 18, 2020, 12:13:53 PM »
Hi all, does anyone know where I might get a picture or diagram showing where the wiring harness clips fit to the frame.  I have some diagrams from the manuals that show harness route, but clip positions are not clear.  Bike is a 1971 CB500K0 that I have rebuilt, having bought it as several boxes of bits. (Imported from US and UK registered in 97)

Many thanks

CB500/550 / Tank badges

Can someone tell me what the difference is between a right hand and left hand tank badge on a 1971 CB500K0?

CB500/550 / CB500K0 piston rings
« on: June 18, 2019, 04:40:30 PM »
Has anyone used Cruzinimage_uk piston rings?  When I came to refit my pistons yesterday, I found one ring broken.  Many expletives were voiced as the were all fine and within spec when I had removed and refitted them to clean the pistons.

CB500/550 / Full gasket set (PFGS CB500F)
« on: June 16, 2019, 03:09:42 PM »
Hi, I am doing a rebuild of a 1971 CB500K0 and purchased a Full Gasket Set (PFGS CB500F) for the purpose.  However, there appears to be a significant number of engine o rings missing; 13 in total, including the four for the oil pump.  Has anyone else experienced this or have I just been unlucky on this occasion?

Many thanks

CB500/550 / Grab rail & rear indicators
« on: April 08, 2019, 06:58:33 PM »
I have been looking for a grab rail for the 1971 CB500K0 that I am working on and have seen several references that suggest it did not have a grab rail.  Is this the case and if so how do the rear indicators attach?  I do seem to remember that the 1974 CB500 I owned 40+ years ago did not have a grab rail but did have a “handle” on the left side to assist in getting the bike on the centre stand.  Is my memory playing tricks on me?

CB500/550 / Valve spring washer removal
« on: March 17, 2019, 06:45:27 PM »
Can someone please advise how you remove the larger of the washers that sit under the valve springs.  The oil film is holding them in place and I cannot get any of them out.  Please help before I loose my mind.

Many thanks

CB650 / CB650 carbs
« on: March 10, 2019, 07:00:38 PM »
Hi, I have a 1980 CB650 engine that I intend to use for a future care racer project and have a question on the carbs.  I have a couple of sets of carbs (069A and PD46) which I hope I can use for the project.  My question is around the carb size.  All the specs I have found suggest a 1980 CB650 had PD51 carbs that were 26mm.  However, if you measure the internal diameter of the inlet stubs they are 30mm, which seems strange.  Could I use the PD46A’s or should I consider perhaps taking the opportunity to fit bigger carbs?

CB500/550 / CB500K0 carbs (627B)
« on: March 07, 2019, 06:09:52 PM »
Spent today dismantling my 1971 CB500K0 carbs for cleaning and refurbishment.  All went reasonably well, despite having to cut two of the four float pins to get the floats out.  However, there is one item that fell on the floor as I was dismantling one of the carbs and I did not see were it came from.  I believe it is part no 96211-05000 which is  5/32” steel ball.  Can anyone advise what the purpose of this little ball is.

Many thanks

CB500/550 / CB500K0 hinge dimensions
« on: March 04, 2019, 12:54:17 PM »
I am rebuilding a 1971 CB500K0 and have not been able to get a hinge or catch / lock for the seat. Bizarly, I have bits of a catch, but not the main part that bolts to the frame.  I have made a hinge as a (hopefully) temporary measure, but I suspect the legs are too long, making the seat sit higher than it should.  Could anyone advise the height of the retaining pin holes above the seat base and if both legs are the same.
I do have a CB550 seat catch / lock, but don’t have the bolt on plate that you need to attach that to the frame.  I could end up having to improvise as the only CB500K0 catch I have found so far is in the US and would cost more in shipping than the cost to buy the catch.  I may modify the seat pan before I fit new foam / cover to allow me to fit either a CB550 sprung catch or the original CB500K0 hook type catch.

Many thanks in advance.

CB500/550 / Headlight mounts
« on: February 24, 2019, 03:37:10 PM »
Can anyone advise if headlight mounts from any other models fit CB500 / 550 forks. I have already tried a pair from a CB750K6 and they are too tall.  I have not been able to find a useable pair of CB500 ones that don’t cost a fortune or are are in such poor condition they would need chromed.

CB500/550 / Airbox to carb rubbers.
« on: February 21, 2019, 02:54:32 PM »
I am refurbing a 1971 CB500K0 that appears to have a CB550K3 air filter case.  (It has the recirculating gubbins in the bottom).  It is missing the air box to carb rubbers and, from reading various posts, it would appear the CB500K0 & CB550K1 & 2 rubbers are different from the CB550K3 ones.  What’s the different and what ones to I need to buy for my situation?

Many thanks

CB500/550 / CB550K3 Rear brake plate spacer
« on: February 09, 2019, 05:18:46 PM »
Can anyone advise how wide the rear wheel, brake plate side, spacer is on a CB550K3.  It would appear I have a CB550K3 brake plate and a CB500K0 spacer and it looks as if the CB550K3 brake plate has a wider boss than the CB550K0 brake plate, as my spacer is about 10 / 12mm too wide.  All other parts appear to be common.  If I can find out how wide the spacer needs to be I can make one.

Many thanks

CB500/550 / Electrics plate

Can anyone advise the difference between a 50330323010 (500K0 plate) and a 50330390000 (550K3 plate) and if they are interchangeable.

CB500/550 / CB500K0 seat hinge
« on: February 04, 2019, 11:38:48 AM »
Hi, just started restoring a 1971 CB500K0.  It was originally a US bike and came in boxes, so I am fairly sure some of the bits will be off later bikes and some I know are CB550K3 bits.  I have two seats but neither have a hinge.  How do I identify if one is a K0 seat and where might I get a hinge (nothing on eBay at the moment).  The one hinge I have is much narrower than the mounting holes, more like what I thing the CB750 hinge was like, as it had two.  Will any other SOHC hinge fit a CB500 seat?

Many thanks

Raymond
