CB500/550 / Airbox to carb rubbers.
« on: February 21, 2019, 02:54:32 PM »
I am refurbing a 1971 CB500K0 that appears to have a CB550K3 air filter case.  (It has the recirculating gubbins in the bottom).  It is missing the air box to carb rubbers and, from reading various posts, it would appear the CB500K0 & CB550K1 & 2 rubbers are different from the CB550K3 ones.  What’s the different and what ones to I need to buy for my situation?

Many thanks

Hi guys,

I bought this bike and the spares that came with it.  Have only just picked it up today, so have not yet had a chance to go through any of it.  There appears to be a 550 engine in bits, in addition to the 650 one, plus lots of carb bits and other engine spares.  This is presumably the engine that was in the Q plate bike, but I have not checked the engine number yet.  I have no use for the 550 engine, as I already have one, and plan to use the 650 engine for my next cafe racer project, so if anyone is looking for any 550 engine or carb parts, let me know.

CB500/550 / Re: CB550K3 Rear brake plate spacer

Many thanks for all the input.  I believe my hub and back plate are both 550K3, but my spindle spacers and chain adjusters are 500K0.  Hence my issue.  My swing arm has a grease nipple, but so do both the swing arm spindles.  I have replaced the plastic swing arm bushes with brass ones and all went together fine.  Thanks again.

Thanks Trigger, that would be about right I think, looking at the gap I have with no spacer fitted.  My problem is I bought two bikes, a 1971 CB500K0 and a 1977 CB550K3 in bits and the parts were mixed up.  I have even have some 250 or 400 Super Dream bits.

Many thanks

Yes, I do mean long.  I did not appreciate that the swingarms were different.  I suspect I have both a CB500K0 and a CB550K3 one, but I do not know which one is fitted.  What are the differences?  I suspect what I need to do is fit a 404 spacer.  Do you know how long a 404 spacer is?

Many thanks

CB500/550 / CB550K3 Rear brake plate spacer
« on: February 09, 2019, 05:18:46 PM »
Can anyone advise how wide the rear wheel, brake plate side, spacer is on a CB550K3.  It would appear I have a CB550K3 brake plate and a CB500K0 spacer and it looks as if the CB550K3 brake plate has a wider boss than the CB550K0 brake plate, as my spacer is about 10 / 12mm too wide.  All other parts appear to be common.  If I can find out how wide the spacer needs to be I can make one.

Many thanks

Can anyone advise the difference between a 50330323010 (500K0 plate) and a 50330390000 (550K3 plate) and if they are interchangeable.

Many thanks

CB500/550 / CB500K0 seat hinge
« on: February 04, 2019, 11:38:48 AM »
Hi, just started restoring a 1971 CB500K0.  It was originally a US bike and came in boxes, so I am fairly sure some of the bits will be off later bikes and some I know are CB550K3 bits.  I have two seats but neither have a hinge.  How do I identify if one is a K0 seat and where might I get a hinge (nothing on eBay at the moment).  The one hinge I have is much narrower than the mounting holes, more like what I thing the CB750 hinge was like, as it had two.  Will any other SOHC hinge fit a CB500 seat?

Many thanks

Thanks. I have checked part numbers and the first five digits on both appear to be the same. (45125 and 45126).

Hi, can anyone tell me if there is any difference between the brake hoses on a 1971 CB500K0 and a 1977 CB550K3.  I need brake hoses, but don’t know which of the two models my master cylinder and calliper came from.

Where's My Old Bike? / My old CB500 (GCS 333N)

Hi, I am a newbie to the forum and am about to start a 1971 CB500K0 restoration, and was curious if anyone knows if my CB500 from when I was 19 (now 61) is still out there.  It was a black CB500 reg number GCS 333N.
