Title: White Smoke - clears after a few miles and high revs
Post by: fazer1k on October 12, 2009, 01:51:23 PM
On start up the engine produces a fair amount of white smoke, strange thing is that after a few miles and if I give it some revs above 7k it seems to clear (if the revs are kept down then the problem persists). Stays clear for the rest of the journey and perhaps the next couple of times I use the bike, then the smoke comes back and the same method clears the problem.

Doesn't appear to be using any oil, has stayed at the top level mark since ownership and is firing on all 4 cylinders.

Any ideas, not sure about the full history but the speedo shows 35k miles.

Thanks,

Ian

White smoke is usually caused by condensation and persists until the engine is properly warmed up.

Blue smoke is burning oil and bad news.

Put your palm over the end of the exhaust and smell the residue - you'll be able to tell whether it is unburnt fuel, oil or just water.
