CB500/550 / Re: Fitting new Motad - need colletts/collars
« on: May 03, 2010, 06:32:23 PM »
Motad used to supply 4 complete circle ones (slide on before fitting silencer) do they not anymore or are they missing?

Not for the 550 Bryan (unfortunately) - the instructions mention to retain the split collars, referring to the Honda originals I guess, which disappeared a long time ago before I owned the bike. Didn't realise the problem until the old Micron came off, now have an order in with David Silvers....

Spent the afternoon replacing the old Micron exhaust with a new Motad, only to discover that the (non split) colletts on the Micron seem to be welded on, so needed some replacements....

Checked David Silver who list split colletts at

Is there a Box Hill meet (VJMC ?) coming up soon ?

Would be good to give the K3 a run and meet up with some fellow SOHC owners  :)

Honda UK have said they will not be importing any, which in my mind is a great shame as I'm sure there would be a market for them over here - look how many Bonnies Triumph have sold, must be quite a few nostalgic 1970s Honda fans out there (apart from us on here) !

I would certainly consider buying one if the price was realistic...

What do you think, any takers if Honda UK change their minds ?

yes mate hull ,

he does not know told me to get in contact with motad,

sure bryan will be right though, bracket will need a bit of modifying, 4 into 4 bracket i have would seem to be specific to the k3 exhausts

Feel free to bid, I'm going to look at alternatives....good luck with the auction !

You will have to modify the silencer bracket/centre stand stop otherwise all fits ok

Thanks Bryan.

Would a Motad 4/1 listed for a CB550 F1/2 fit straight onto a K3 ? If not, can it be easily made to fit ?!

Thanks,

Ian

CB500/550 / White Smoke - clears after a few miles and high revs
« on: October 12, 2009, 01:51:23 PM »
On start up the engine produces a fair amount of white smoke, strange thing is that after a few miles and if I give it some revs above 7k it seems to clear (if the revs are kept down then the problem persists). Stays clear for the rest of the journey and perhaps the next couple of times I use the bike, then the smoke comes back and the same method clears the problem.

Doesn't appear to be using any oil, has stayed at the top level mark since ownership and is firing on all 4 cylinders.

Any ideas, not sure about the full history but the speedo shows 35k miles.

Thanks,

Ian

CB500/550 / Re: CB400/4 wheels on a CB550K3 ?
« on: September 24, 2009, 06:16:07 PM »
I'd check number of bolts holding the front disk on too.............

Guess that would be 4 bolts.......had the spoke wheels in mind for a longer term replacement of the comstars  :)

Hmm, wonder if the CB400/4 wheel hubs could be used as a basis for rebuilds (new rims/spokes) to 19" front and 18" rear, maybe still an option....

Doesn't the 400 have an 18" front wheel?

550 = 19"

EDIT: Yep, just looked in the book. The 400/4 has an 18" front.

Thanks Steve, that info will save me a few quid and a wasted trip to collect them.
