Wheels yes brakes no

Thanks Bryan, so the front wheel will require a CB550 specific brake disc ? And the rear hub requires a different drum ?

Does anyone know if the 400/4 spoked wheels will fit straight onto a CB550K3 ?

Thanks,

Ian

Found that you can still order the following part numbers (which hold the brass barrel of the steering lock in place).....

53603051000    RIVET,4.1MM                  1     1.12
53604098940    WASHER, 4.5MM                1     1.03

from www.lings.com - although the postage for the above is a ridiculous

Hagon apparently offer a repair service for Comstar wheels....

Been around for a long time and also supply good replacement shocks.

Yes, the head bearings, going back in on Thursday for replacements and 'free' re-test.

There is a small notch/detent at the 'straight ahead' which can be felt when turning the bars very slowly - will be interesting to see if there is any noticeable difference in the handling afterwards, I'm sure there will be....

At least they didn't mention the race can, which was my main concern beforehand  8)

Was shocked to find out that my VFR750FL (1990) failed it's MOT this morning.....

"Steering movement excessively 'notchy' with the wheel raised [2.2.1b]"

especially as I've done so few miles on it since the last test (same testing station btw) :(

I asked them to decypher the above, any guesses to what needs replacing ?

I installed a new steering lock sourced from David Silver, no problems fitting and it works fine.

Any idea where I can find a new suitable brass rivet/washer to fit ?

(the lock works ok without this, but tends to pull out of the barrel when unlocking)

Thanks.

Hopefully a picture will appear....

I guess a reasonable second hand 4/4 exhaust may appear on eBay at some stage, perhaps in the US. David Silver list a 4 into 1 Motad system, anyone tried one of these, are they road legal and good quality ?

The front disc is badly scored, really bad, will try a new disc/pad combination and if neccessary overhaul the rest of it. Priority for me is to get a new MoT and some miles in before the end of the season....

The CB650Z had twin disks (thanks Google...)

So he may have left one of them off (?)

And that's a 500/550 caliper (the 650 calipers were completely different)

Thanks for the info Steve.

Yes, definitely a 550 caliper and hopefully a 650 wheel with one disk left off as I have just ordered a pattern 650 disk from Wemoto. Will let you know if my gamble paid off, otherwise it could be on eBay next week !

The paintwork was not as good as expected, has a few minor marks, at least no dents and the side panels are in good shape.

Hi everyone,

Got carried away on eBay last week and am now a proud owner of a 1978 CB550K3, one year older that the one I bought back in 1979 !

Some work to do, starting with the front brake to get it through the MOT - they were never that good but this one is awful, the back brake is much more powerful which says it all really  :)

Now on the lookout for an original 4 into 4 system to replace the 4 into 1 Micron, guess it could take a while.....

It also unusually has comstar wheels which I think may have come from CB650, but only has the original single front disc, still need to figure this out and perhaps return it to stock sometime in the future.

Cheers,

Ian
