Tricks & Tips / Brake master Cylinder painting
« on: February 20, 2023, 12:31:05 PM »
I have looked but cannot see a previous article on the forum. so....
my CB400/4 master is very messy with paint lifting due to brake fluid leakage. It needs either to be stripped and repainted or replace with a aftermarket part for £46 (ish).
Has anybody stripped and repainted? What was the painting process and products used? For stripping, I guess I could just use more brake fluid  ;D. Thanks in anticipation.

Desperately Seeking!! / Re: CB400 SuperSport Mudguard wanted
« on: January 15, 2023, 04:53:36 PM »
Have you tried Classic Bike Shop Ltd in Redditch  Tel. no 01527454158
I recently bought a rear chrome mudguard for my 400/4, it looks every bit the same as the original Honda UK fitment.
I haven’t got rid of the original front or rear and intend to see if they will stand rechroming in the future.

Thanks - I have seen them advertised (along with DSS) and they may be where I end up going. Just hoping (beyond hope?) there may be a more "cost effective" solution.

Thanks for responding.

Desperately Seeking!! / CB400 SuperSport Mudguard wanted
« on: January 14, 2023, 01:19:51 PM »
The chromed section of my rear mudguard  has lots of rust spots and holes where the various panels come together. It needs replacing. Before I go spending £200+ on an American style aftermarket replacement, I was wondering if anybody has a respectable unit laying around. If you have, please let me know details.

Many thanks.

This has just answered a question I came on to the forum to check out. So thanks for asking the question OldChuffer and thanks for answering it Ted. Time for me to get off the computer and head out to the workshop again.

CB350/400 / Re: Carb Leak, Simple Fix, but Long Time Finding Fault!!!
« on: October 20, 2022, 12:16:51 PM »
I am in the process of re-assembling my CB00/4 carbs and the float  bowls were going to be fitted today. I came on to the forum to see if I could establish (beyond doubt) which way the main jets go in and saw this article. Timing could be good for me as three of the four carbs were leaking fuel out of the over flow pipes when I started this project. Assumption was that the floats were stuck in the gloop at the bottom of the float bowl (and there were signs on the floats this could be the case). I will now do a quick check around the overflow pipe/bowl joint.

Welcome to the forum Adrian  ;) pics please .

Some pics, as requested. These are of the bike 3 or 4 years ago when it came out of the shed for a while before going back in again. It was last on the road in early 1999. It is currently up on the workbench as a work in progress. Currently working on de-gunking the carbs.

I have joined this group as I recently bought a CB400/4 F2. It had been residing in a shed in Exeter for the last 23 years and brought the bike back to Herne Bay, Kent, and got it up on to the bench the same day. For the most part, it is pretty solid although the rear mudguard is shot and will need to be replaced and probably the exhaust system as well, but I am looking to get it running first. And that is where I am at  right now.

I bought a new battery and spark plugs thinking I might get lucky, but no chance. I loaded fuel into my workshop hanging petrol tank and it p...ed straight through the carbs and out of the overflows, So the carbs are now on the bench being stripped and will be cleaned ultra-sonicly - once I get an ultrasonic cleaner. They were rammed with "mud" and the jets blocked or partially so.

I have the Honda "shop manual" for the bike which tells how the carbs should be stripped (mostly - missing out some detail) but is rather lacking on the rebuild. Don't we all find it easy to get things apart???  So, the first quest is if anybody has written a more comprehensive strip & rebuild document for the carbs that will help me get them back together and set-up in a sensible manner?

Thanks all who read my intro and I look forward to getting the bike back on the road - where it deserves to be.

Kind regards.

Adrian
