Title: Clutch basket rubbers.
Post by: Johnny4428 on February 21, 2024, 11:13:03 AM
Just as an experiment I thought I would try some button head screws to retain the backing plate on the clutch basket rubbers. Cranked it over a couple of times just by hand and removed basket again and all seemed to fine I found contact marks. Probably could have filed a little from the heads of the screws but since I had some CSK 6mm screws I thought I would play safe and fit them.

I replaced my clutch rubbers on the 400/4 yesterday.
Max sent me six csk screws (allan key head) with the kit. He also advised me to countersink the retaining plate and to use green loctite on the threads and to stake the ends of the threads. I've done as advised and although the top of the csk screw heads are pround of the retaining plate they are about the same height as the rivet heads were.  The proof will be when it runs but it all appears to be OK.  The old rubbers were split, shrunk and rock hard with a lot of movement on the gear as a result.

Mines was the same Dave, cracked and shrunk with a noticeable bit of play between gear and basket. I just put the screws in with a good blob of loctite thread lock.
