My engine rebuild costs have just hit £979 in parts, rebore & engineering work.
Just wondered if that's pretty normal here?
Now I'm just wondering if it's worth breaking the £1k barrier by fitting the alloy tensioner horseshoe sold by DS ?
Only extra costs I might later encounter would be when I decoke the cylinder head if it's not just a simple grind etc.

That's about right for you doing all the work you have been able to do with just outsourcing the re bore etc. If you need to have new valve guides, valves, valves faces cut, valve seat regrind etc, etc that will rack the price up somewhat.

I have just under a thousand in mine but haven’t touched the cylinder head yet. It adds up very quickly, sh crank and full set of bearings, timing chain, guides and horseshoe, primary chain, rebore and pistons, gaskets, seals etc . luckily, I can repair the cooling fins and treads repairs myself. Hopefully ill get time to test fit the crank today and paint the cases tomorrow and start the rebuild next week

A grand so far is pretty good for such a complex in line four and every penny spent on genuine spare is money well spent
As they say “buy it cheap buy it twice”
When I rebuilt my RD350LC engine time you add in new crank, plus barrels needed new liners and pistons and lots of other stuff like genuine Yamaha seals and replace other internal parts with genuine Yam bill was well over this for such a simple engine

Wow that looks like a brand new engine now.

Except for the rusty spacer on the rear engine mount ;) ;)
Yes
For the bushes on the RD cases it’s a case of leave as is if they are ok as it is easy to damage wreck the cases changing them
