Title: Tank badges
Post by: Sesman on October 07, 2021, 09:49:14 PM
I’m about to attempt a tank badge restoration. Does anybody have any tips on method and paint?

I could be wrong, but it looks like the entire is gold anodised with Matt black paint infill? Or is it gold paint with black infill?

Any knowledge and tips greatly received.

Hi, oddjob. I have the super fast, super light F model, so no heavy badges on the side panels for me. Just super light aerodynamic transfers. ;D ;D.

Do you think the original panels were gold anodised or gold painted. I’m thinking anodised, but I’m hopeless as ‘finishishes’ detective work.

I would say gold anodised. I had to strip the 6 layers of paint from mine to repaint to correct finish. It is certainly all gold when stripped.

Thanks Johnny4428.

I’m going with gold anodised after I’ve ground out the nasty gouges and straightened them up.

Hi Phil

I got my side panel badges from eBay they are metal and fit very well if you phone the shop I think they can do it cheaper. here is the link https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334117952403 this is the best price I found for them.

best Regards

Nigel

Yep, the emphasis has aleed from tank badges to side panel badges…which is fine of course.

I’ve found someone to anodise the original tank badges.

No wonder the k models were so slow, all that extra weight…. :D
