Hi, just gauging interest before I stick on ebay. Reg 10-Jun-1972, V5 in my name. Bought from Uncle. Bit of a basket case. Bought a US import frame which is in great condition, which I naively thought I could transfer all the bits to. Anyway, was advised to save the original frame if possible. Long story short, after spraying it in copious amounts of GT85, I've decided that this is a bridge too far for my skills and spare time. Just want back what I paid for it. I paid £300 for bike, also got a box of rusy bits, including chain, clutch, engine casings, kick start and gear selector. Also got tank but no seat. I paid £300 for bike and £290 for the spare frame (with Nova cert). Looking to sell bike and frame together. Bike SORN. Any interest? I can provide more/better pics on request. Gonna get an easier project for my first resto. Cheers, Scott 07814 322924 PS. All I can tell you about the history is that my Uncle acquired it 30 years ago as a runner, having done 65,000 miles.

Sorry to say i dont think you will get your money back for that

Just curious but why can't you transfer all the bits to the US frame? only the seat lock bracket is different and as it has no seat that's not a problem.
-
Apparently it's an absolute mission getting a US import registered in the UK. Also, UK bikes more desirable.
-
Its easy to register a US bike as long as you have the Nova cert

Guy at Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club said it's a very difficult job with the DVLA.

In my limited experience that’s not correct. Iv’e just completed a registration in 6 weeks flat from VJMC letter of authentication to receiving the V5, including a DVLA vehicle inspector visit. In my experience folks create their own problems by not filling in the forms correctly.

Looking at your postcode it’s not worth the petrol money for me….sorry.

That guy is waffling out of his fundamental orifice. DVLA can take time, especially at the moment but fill the rorms out right and you are ok.

The frame of the original bike looks bad, but the pic is low definition. Are there missing sections in the tubes? In fairness there is not much to transfer to another frame apart from the engine and carbs and they may require a lot of work.
Maybe registering a bare frame with NOVA may be more difficult than a complete bike. VJMC rep is an expert.

Cheers guys. Got renewed confidence in my original plan now. Got a decent U.S. frame of the same year so I may rethink my selling on plan. I would however take an offer of £400 for both. Cheers Scott

Scott.
What is your original plan please.

Depends what you wish to achieve. If you want to do a concourse restoration, you can take both frames to a frame straighteners and get the head stock transferred to the good frame. This will give you a UK bike, which is worth a lot more than a USA unit.
If you want a non standard bike then you can transfer all the parts to the USA frame. There is only one problem with trying to get a UK V5 on a nova is, it sometimes can trigger a DVLA inspection ;)

Thanks. Original plan was to swap everything over to the U.S. import frame. Seems a shame to cannibalise the US frame when it's so good. I did wonder if the headstock could b cut and rewelded but I guess that's a specialist job and expensive. Not looking for concourse originality.

Ps. Any recommendations who to take frames to, to get headstock moved to US frame, and likely cost. Cheers Scott

Found Motoliner in Kent, I'll give them a shout.
