Title: Oil filter housing bolt.
Post by: Bradders on January 28, 2022, 03:23:35 PM
Afternoon all. Have had a nightmare of a time getting the oil filter housing bolt undone. ( it’s only been on for a year). With regard to fitting the new one on any tips for avoiding the same difficulty in a years time?  Regards, Chris.

Grease/oil the O ring by the head,

Like tappet covers, they don't need to be to tight

On the 750k3, it came with a 1” head on the filter bolt. That’s the biggest I’ve seen. Scarey prospect the damage that could do with some muppet on the other end of the spanner. Thankfully the threads in the crankcase were fine.

Do you think it’s ok to torque it up to the level the manual says, or is that too tight?

Thanks Bryanj. I shall do the same then, maybe it won’t need a blowtorch to get it off next time then.

Also - think canister filters doing the same job - only hand tight with no tools, as Bryan says, just nipped tight is all it takes if the "O" rings are all good.

And never use a 12pt ring spanner on the 12mm head. Six sided socket only.
