Title: 'Honda Made in Japan' Sticker
Post by: Martin6 on December 19, 2023, 01:50:31 PM
Hi,
Having restored my frame I have some finishing touches. This black and silver sticker goes on the frame's steering head tube somewhere. Does anyone know the correct position for a UK 750K6?

Right hand side of headstock. This is our UK K6.

Thank you Julie.
The frame number was left unpowdercoated, just clear lacquer.

Pretty sure Piki does them.

They are only fitted to 750's Dom, and even then only UK models and a few other markets. But, if you really want one I'll have a look in my stash.

Sure I have one if Julie hasn't.

I certainly don't need one but it's a nice little detail, strange Honda should produce a sticker like that for one model only.

Sorry but that's incorrect. I've always had one on my 500, when the frame was powder coated I fitted a new one. https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb500k1-four-england_model14660/name-plate_87125041680/ AFAIK the 550 got one too, it's shown in the parts book but as only being fitted to the DK and DM markets but I'm almost certain I had one on my 550F2.

However the placement whilst being the same isn't ideal IMO, the clutch cable runs right across it and the constant movement of the cable as the bars turn tend to rub the edge of the sticker to death, I'd position it nearer to the front where the seam joint is, so between the seam joint and the frame number, that way the seam joint itself protects it. It's still on the headstock but not exactly where Honda put it. In Julies pic you can see where the cable has been rubbing paint off the frame, this then in turn rubs all the plastic coating off the cable exposing the metal braiding underneath, this accelerates the process and also allows water to gain access to the inner cable, the cable I took off my 500 was brand new and wasn't on that long but it's still down to the metal, Honda tried to protect the cable by fitting an outer sheath but it just delays the inevitable IMO. This time, because genuine cables are bloody expensive I'll split some fuel hose and try using that as a discardable bit of protection, maybe each year replace it. Being softer as well it may protect the paint as well better. Maybe a bit of silicon oil on it to make it slide over the surface easier.
