CB750 / CB750 K1 fuel line routing
« on: December 13, 2023, 02:45:23 PM »
I've just cleaned the inside of the fuel tank with Bilt Hamber Deox-C to remove some surface rust....now nice and clean!
I bought new fuel lines as the one's on my bike were brittle and I had to cut them to remove the tank: could anyone tell me the best (or only) routing for the fuel lines from the tank to carbs please?
My petcock is on the right hand side of the tank as per K1.
Do both lines have to be the same length?

Thanks Ted, you're a star, Merci from France!

Sprayed loads of brake cleaner while opening and closing the throttle on the sliders and cams then reinstalled the rubber covers, started sticking slightly so cleaned the interior of the rubbers.....now all good  :)

I'll try and get the bike started before leaving for Blighty......if the carbs require a full strip, clean and fettling, who would be the best person to contact?

CB750 / Sticking carbs
« on: October 20, 2023, 12:55:28 PM »
I was hoping for a straightforward commissioning but it appears the carbs are sticking. I've disconnected the pushme pullyou cables on the carb side hoping it was the cables at fault but when lifting the ramp about a quarter way up, the carbs stick when releasing the ramp then snap down. I've had a good scan with my failing eyesight to check nothing is holding them back but all looks OK to me.....any ideas out there?

Also as the bike has not been run for some time, would it be wise to have them ultrasonically cleaned and set up correctly? I'm over in the UK on 6th to 16th November so I could bring them over with me. Any specialists here who could help?

Thanks guys, ordered from France, same part number with Vintage bike company: I suspect they buy from David Silver 👍

;) Start up bike and let it run for about 10 minutes, shut it off and put it on the center stand.start with the oil tank first.loosen the filler cap. Have a drain pan ready and remove the plug. After the tank is drained, replace and tighten the plug. Proceed on to the oil sump plug and drain the oil from there. Again, replace and tighten the plug.remove the oil filter housing. there is a thin washer between the oil filter element and the spring. This likes to stick to the filter and before you know it, you've thrown it away. crank the engine over a few times with the kick starter to get out the last remaining oil in the engine. Take a good look at what's in the bottom of the filter, as any bits of metal might be a warning that something's on it's way out. it might be worthwhile to drop the oil sump to give it a good cleaning and clean the oil pump gauze while the sump is off. Apply a bit of clean oil to the oil filter O-ring.With the bolt back in place, reassemble the oil filter housing with the spring first, then the washer and finally the new filter. Replace the filter onto the engine,do not to overtighten the bolt.Fill the oil tank with about three and a half pints of oil, the oil level will drop to its proper level when the engine is started. press the starter or kick it over a few times with the emergency stop switch off to circulate the oil into the empty filter housing before running the engine. After doing this, fire up the bike and the oil light goes out in a few seconds.if not your in trouble  :o check for oil leaks and oil level ;)

My thin washer between the oil filter element and the spring is missing: is it a crucial part, if so where can I precure one or is it a standard washer?

Slowly getting on with my commissioning  ;)

Thanks for the advice.....I'll keep you posted 🤞

As the bike hasn't been run for some time, when changing the oil and filter, would it be wise to drop some oil into the tappet adjusting caps to lubricate the top end before starting?

I entend to remove the fuel tank to give it a good clean but when removing the fuel strainer cup, I found it half full of tiny copper coloured particles......weird, any ideas?  :-\

CB750 / Bike delivered....commissioning started
« on: October 13, 2023, 11:13:04 AM »
At long last, bike was delivered yesterday....through Holland for some reason hence 9% import VAT......thankfully paid by Iconic auctions :).
Up close and personal, all appears as per photos so pleased with that, just dust, cobwebs and a small amount of surface rust on some of the chrome nuts/bolts easily removed with chrome cleaner. Took me a few hours to understand how the partially seized seat lock works 🤦‍♂️
Commissioning started, oil, filters, plugs, master cylinder and battery.
Two concerns: the clutch does not release when engaged in 1st gear (bike hasn't been started yet after some time in storage) and the forks make a clunking sound when pumped up and down.
Any advice on the above concerns from the well versed CB750 aficionados out there?

Result!

Silverstone auction's financial Director has sent me an email saying they would cover the cost of the import VAT as the bike was incorrectly catalogued as having Irish papers. Approx.£500 ;D

The bike won't be delivered until mid October as I'm away from home for most of September  :(

Welcome to the sohc Forum Matt....I think you got fair warning TBH. When buying at Auction.....as always, 'Caveat Emptor' applies.

Quote:
We encourage buyers outside of the UK to confirm any local tax, VAT or duty that may be payable upon purchase. i.e. 'Don't expect the Auctioneer to pay any taxes etc etc'.........because they won't !

I think you'll just have to cough up the dosh......and worry about it after, but I can't see you have a case for a refund.

Enjoy the bike.......if it is as good as they say, then you'll soon forget the 5.5% duty.

Mark Bryan of Iconic Auctions has quietly stuck his head in the sand as no replies to my emails so I've instructed Moving Motorcycles to schedule the shipping.....no date as yet 🤞

Luckily we have a good parts supplier for classic Hondas here in France (so no additional duty/VAT to pay!).

I am not into USA 750's. James H is the specialist when it comes to imports, he has restored a few in his time .
The decal on the rear mudguard should be somewhere else, Maybe on the chain guard or swinging arm and the decal on the chain guard looks like the one that should be on the mudguard  ;) Just spotted that it has JIS screws on the airbox mounting brackets to the frame. These were M6 hex bolts originally.

Nothing major and easily sorted out, phew!....thanks Trigger ✔

Never seen a oil decal in that place on a side panel before  ;)

Well spotted Trigger!....just been checking it out. Sticker is correct but should be located on the top of the right side cover not at the bottom, so you're totally correct. Any further insights?
