Misc / Open / Posting pics.😡
« on: Today at 07:46:52 AM »
Now I’m not that clever when it comes to posting pics and computer ma bobs! Up until now I have never had any problems posting up until recently. If there is anybody else here posting from an iPad which I normally use for browsing, forum etc you might have encountered the same issue. I normally have my iPhone on me so that’s what I use to take most of my pics then it automatically links and updates to my iPad. Up until recently I select a pic to attach to a post then at the bottom of the pic I had the option to resize - large, medium etc but now that option is gone.😡 Problem now is the photos are too large in format terms to post. I don’t really know if I’ve done something or was it after a software update? I have got round the issue I now have to screen shot and edit the pics to enable me to post. It’s a nuisance but more than one way to “skin a cat”! What a horrible saying! I’m too much of a pussy person to even considerate it!😂😂

Misc / Open / Barn find!
« on: March 20, 2024, 09:57:51 PM »
I have been distracted severely over the last few days but slowly getting over it. The distraction in question is an engine that belonged to my father who passed away in the early eighties. Remarkably it was still in the loft of the barn where it was used and the place I was born. I am not into old stationary engines in anyway but this had sentimental value. It is all seized up bet that is understandable since it has sat for the last 60 or maybe even 70 years without running. It is a Fairbanks Morse Z type 3 1/2hp. I’m quite sure it will run. It just doesn’t know it yet!🤣 But first major soaking in oil, WD40, parrafin, diesel etc. This is a true “barn find”! 😜

Had a lovely run out today in the sunshine, although sub 10C . And a bonus as Ian Stallard was actually home! 😂 Nice tour of the “toy cupboard” and a lovely cup of tea, chat and bit of banter. Thanks Ian! 50 miles shake down.

Major improvement. Not an enjoyable job! Shorter top brake hose on order, new throttle cables, need to order a clutch cable yet, 750 clutch cable on it at the moment.🤭

Anorak's Corner / Exhaust collars.

Was delighted when I received these back from the chrome platers today, was wondering if it was worth hours and hours of grinding sanding and polishing down the very rough castings. These were the original ones off my K3. Not sure which bike they are going on yet. To think I nearly dumped them on more than one occasion!😳

CB500/550 / Will it fix?

Going to fit a new seal in this today but dissapointed to find this tacho drive broken. What’s the chances of a repair? Nothing to lose.

CB500/550 / Good Samaritan!

Just when I was pondering over the best solution for a fuel tank for my old 550, there was a knock at the door. This arrived. Not even a delivery charge!😂 Complete with lid, flap with lock and fuel tap. It does need a bit of repair but should be a good tank when sorted. Thanks very much Ian!
I’ve been in contact with Frankie who is going to take a look at it.

CB500/550 / Clutch basket rubbers.
« on: February 21, 2024, 11:13:03 AM »
Just as an experiment I thought I would try some button head screws to retain the backing plate on the clutch basket rubbers. Cranked it over a couple of times just by hand and removed basket again and all seemed to fine I found contact marks. Probably could have filed a little from the heads of the screws but since I had some CSK 6mm screws I thought I would play safe and fit them.

Out & About / Cold February run.

Couldn’t resist a blast out today. Still a lot of road salt about but that’s the beauty of having an unrestored steed. Gave it a hose down when I got back home. The restored stable mates still in winter hibernation.

CB350/400 / Is this of any interest?

Found this folded up inside an old Haynes manual that I acquired. It’s maybe common knowledge to 400/4 owners.

Misc / Open / Fuel tap size.
« on: January 19, 2024, 10:57:56 AM »
Not familiar with anything other than Honda tanks. I have a fuel tank I would quite like to find a tap for. The photo doesn’t show the size of fitment very well but it is 35mm centres.

CB500/550 / Saturday salvage.
« on: January 13, 2024, 05:31:36 PM »
I happened to be having a conversation with a fellow biker a couple of months ago and told him about my latest purchase of the 550. He then asked if I wanted another? I asked how much he wanted for it and he said same price as he had paid for it! £0. Apparently he saved it going in the skip. Fast forward 4 years and he had decided a while ago that he wasn’t going to do anything with it. I’m not so sure if he should have saved it going in the skip in the first place.😂😂 However I picked it up today and I’ll see if I can get it running, take it from there.

CB500/550 / Rear indicator earth.
« on: January 05, 2024, 06:05:17 PM »
I had one of these fail today surprisingly. After discovering there was no offside rear indicator today I checked the obvious, the bulb which appeared to be fine gave it a wiggle as you do, nothing! Checked connections under seat then with multimeter checked for power at bulb socket which showed power supply ok. Soon became apparent that there was no earth to light. The culprit was the earth/bracket mount (thingy). A few taps with the hammer on the rivet and it now shows good connection. I will remove rivet at some point to clean connection before riveting again.
