From your experiences what is the best way to install a full engine into a bare frame? Is the “lay it on its side” method recommended or is there a better way?
Any advice gratefully received

CB500/550 / Advice required re fork stanchions

I have ordered a set of fork stanchions for a CB550 K3. The specs required are 35mm diameter and 570mm length (part no. 51410-404-003)
The chap I’ve ordered them from says he can no longer get the exact ones I’ve ordered but can get another Honda set which measure 35mm diameter and 576mm long. He doesn’t know the part number or what model they are from.
Does anyone know if the slightly longer ones can be used in place of the originals and whether the original internal baffles and springs will be useable in this configuration.
Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Is any one selling a seat for a 1977 550 K3. I’m not too bothered about the condition of the foam or seat cover but the pan needs to be sound (or at least a damn sight better than this one) [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

I am trying to source a set of fork ears for a 1977 550K3 which I’m trying to bring back to life. After much searching I have found a set in Canada which look identical (they have the extra stem fitting for the indicators) but they are from a CB750. Does anyone know if these parts are interchangeable.

CB500/550 / Obtaining a V5 on a rebuild

I have just started a rebuild project on an accident damaged 1977 CB550 K3. I have already had to buy a replacement crankcase from a ‘76 model which will give me a new engine number but, unfortunately, the bike was a category B write off so I have also got to source a new frame. The only one I can source at the present time is a USA import (not sure of the year) for which the seller says he has the necessary NOVA certificate.
Can anyone advise how easy it will be, or even whether it will still be possible, to obtain a V5 and an age related registration.
