Working on my Hypermotard 1100 evo sp at the moment....nothing bad but all good....while im fitting a new alloy subframe....over the years ive added x amount of electrical additions...

1. Optimate Trailing charging cable.
2. QS
3. Custom replacement handguard indicators with combined running lights.
4. (Today) Aux USB at the handlebars
5. Heated grips...
6. Denali soundbomb - needs its own relay.
7. GPS tracker

Renovating my old mans 400/4 taught me a shed load about motorcycle electrics (and Roo's very polite but dogged persistance!) but probably only about 5% of all of it (my guess) - any way ive decided to get one of those fuseboxes....notably this one

https://www.nippynormans.com/fuse-panels/fuzeblock-switchable-fuse-panel

My main question is, on there, theres a relay - can i utilize that for the soundbomb? and if i could how would i integrate the 4 wires from the current relay (2 for the switch) and i think 2 for the power. Or, does the fusebox relay (not work that way).

Look forward to anyone that can throw a bit of light on the subject - if you can...i know its not Honda stuff but i would say kinda generic...

CB350/400 / Fine tuning?
« on: February 24, 2024, 06:31:00 PM »
As above...not sure what it is...its not running i would say 100%....i had a carb leak last week....took the carbs out, took the bottom float bowls off of the middle 2.... gave them a good clean...which sorted out the leaking and i hasten to add it started a bit better also....its not really been used over the winter...went out on it earlier just to turn the engine over.....observations so far....

1. Doesnt want to tickover properly...i can turn the main idle up itll sit a 2000 but anything below it'll conk out...
2. When i got back i noticed exhaust fumes coming from the pipe underneath the airbox.
3. Have to give it lots of revs to pull away but not sure if thats the norm...could be just me...

So back to the original question....does it need a tune-up..? or is it the "way they are"?? as it were?

CB350/400 / 400/4 Garaged over the winter.
« on: December 23, 2023, 06:48:34 PM »
As above. mines not been used since nipping over to Roo's house for help/schooling. I was in the garage earlier cleaning the z (every other week through the winter to keep it up to scratch) as i use it every day for work. Finished cleaning and thought "hmm...may as well kick the 400 over as its not been started for a while....famous last words.....i did get it started but only just after about 15 mins or so of firing the starter/choke on and off and then once i got it started coaxing it into life...once running if i snapped the throttle open it would die instantly but not all the time....question is, am i right in thinking im gonna need to nip round the block on this once a month just to keep stuff turned over? Both my Hyper and moreso the RSV4 start on the button after being left for 6 months....so guessing with the 400 it is what it is...and old carbed bike or does it need further tuning?

Any guidance/advice is greatly accepted! - oh - yes it does stay on an optimate as well.

Member 4 Sales / 400/4 Cam Chain tensioner.
« on: October 29, 2023, 11:57:34 AM »
Having a clear up since the rebuild. While the motor was apart i changed the CamChain tensioner for one of those billet alloy ones. Apparently the OEM ones are still worth something. If anyone is interested in mine...30 quid delivered. Its hardly done any miles... (6200) so apparently Bryan tells me theres loads of life left in it yet!

Desperately Seeking!! / Wiring Diagrams
« on: July 02, 2023, 01:21:56 PM »
Hi there - Roo is over helping me with wiring up my 400 today.

Does anyone have a colour copy of the 400/4 wiring diagram? I was lost ages ago but Roo has gotten way further than me and asked the question.

Cheers to anyone that chips in.

As above - i joined the us forum thinking that was "the" place but, being in the UK ive found/stumbled across this one since resurrecting the build. As i said in my intro i started this a few years back and it stalled due to a massive garden renovation which im still working on but getting to the end of....

A little bit of history....my dads bike. When he passed away we thought he sold it but, it was at the back of the garage in good condition with some blankets over (but not used for 20 years or so). As my 2 brothers part owned it they wanted to sell it. It has 2 previous owners, both in the family and 6k ish on the clock. About 7 years ago i rode it once to the MOT which it passed but then made the decision to buy my 2 brothers out (best thing i ever did) . As i had no room in my garage to store it (a small garage with an RSV4, Hypermotard 1100 evo sp and a z1000) in there my mate offered to store it in a shipping container at his workplace....it sat there for 5 years and the damp ate it alive...hence my decision to strip it down and rebuild from the ground up. My plan is to do a resto mod....and update all the wiring, remove the old points, add in a Motogadget MUnit and change all the bulbs to LED.

I did make a start by getting a load of powder coating done, some rechroming and rebuild the wheels with alloy rims and stainless spokes. Heres some random pics and not in order....

Desperately Seeking!! / Looking for an engine builder for a 400/4
« on: April 25, 2022, 08:15:06 PM »
As above. Ive just joined the forum....ive been on the US forum for the last 2 years or so (didnt know this one existed tbh). Ive got a clean box of bits that i need turning back into an engine....i dont mind doing clutch work, generator and a little bit of top end but dont trust myself building a whole engine. It my late fathers bike so i want it to be right!

Any suggestions would be great. Cheers.

As above....A good few years back i became the owner of my late fathers 400/4. It was, in good condition. I stored it in a shipping container and the damp has literally eaten it alive (recoved it a couple of years back) and started to strip down for a full restoration and some upgrades....(digital ignition, new wiring and other stuff). The work has stalled for the last 14 months as ive had a garden renovation to tend to which im now almost through so im back on the bike....a bit of history...

A lot of work has already been done...its a rolling chassis now after a powder coate of the frame...the forks rechromed, wheels rebuilt with alloy rims and stainless spokes. The sticking point is the motor....to try to keep costs down ive stripped the motor to the crankcases and had all the exterior parts bead blasted....ive gave the engine to a local bikeshop which is where its stayed, in pieces  (the last 14 months) until last week. I think it was too much for him (i think he was a bit too proud to admit it, so i went and got it all)

So, ive got 4 boxes of bits albeit very clean and now have to find someone in the UK that can build it. I did contact one builder up north but he literally wanted thousands to rebuild it (i worked it out at close to 3k). I dont mind paying if i have to but, pardon the pun - dont want to get taken for a ride...i watched my ducati engine (hypermotard) get rebuilt in close to 2 working days and the 400/4 i would say is a simpler engine??

If anyone has got any advice im all ears....Glad to be here...ill be posting regularly as ive still got a lot of work to do..!
